So my 1995 new holland 1920 with 950hrs seems to have some play in both front wheel bearing. When jacking up the tractor and grabbing the top and bottom of the tire and wiggling it I would say there is approximately 1/8" of movement at the outside face of the wheel. The play is coming from the hub and its not anything else in front end. The thing that gets me is both front wheels have identical play. I have don't alot of auto repair over the years but never had to work on this tractor much.
So I pulled one of the hubs apart and the bearing seem tight and the races look good. What worries me is the ring gear on each hub is now allowed to come in closer contact to the pinion gear due to this play. The oil looked good but there was alittle bit of thick oil that appears to have metal deposits in it.
Dose anyone know with 4wd front hubs like that is there a certain amount of play in the design inherently?
