newholland 555e backhoe and new holland tc40
I was driving my new Holland 555e backhoe, then it suddenly died. it has diesel, and a good battery (lights work and can hear fuel pump). The starter doesn't turn over though. Does anyone have any idea on why it suddenly died and wont start again (can turn key and hear fuel pump but the starter doesn't turn over/engine doesn't turn over). is it a grounding problem or wiring? Or even fuel? if anyone has any ideas or had/has the same problem please let me know, id really like to get the backhoe up and running again. Thanks John

Do lights work if so probably starter. Also check cables they are long cables and could be worn and need replaced(battery cables)

If you have inter locks in the starter circuit( clutch switch or tranny switch and seat switch, etc) make sure they are closed when you try to start. make sure that the battery terminals are clean and that the ground cable to the chasis is brite and tight. Neither of these should have stopped the engine from running but they will prevent the starter from being actuated. If you have a solenoid on the injector pump to allow fuel input , make sure the wire isn't loose or disconnected.

I agree with all of Jerry's suggestions and would check those. If still no luck, you may have to investigate a problem with the circuit panel in the RH B pillar or fender. Of course check your fuses first, but I had one that would turn over and not fire. It turned out there was a break in the circuit board. I detached the board from the mount and soldered a jumper wire past the trouble spot.
