I have a NH 114 haybine, i been using it for 20 years without to much problems.Today i started to cut hay but the header plugs up were the crop is heavy(alphalpha/grass mix) and it'll stop the hydr motor,.i wonder what going on? It does it even when going only 2 ml an hour. There is some last years second growth in with the new,but that was never really a problem before.
I have a 5000 psi pressure gauge permanent on the relief valve to keep an eye on the pressure, the pressure runs over 4500 psi before the hydr motor runs out of steam,so i don't think the motor is shot.

One can turn this bine over with 2 fingers when servicing, the guards and knives are sharp and well adjusted.

I'm stumped:confused2:

1) Knife bushing heavily worn causing insufficient knife travel. (remove to inspect)

2) Reel drive too slow or to far away to feed crusher rolls. (Adjust ground speed ?)

3) Missing reel teeth. (poor feeding)

4) Rolls not extracting crop from cutterbar area. Missing or thrown secondary drive chain)

5) Hold down clips missing, worn, bent, or too high clearance. (poor knife registration)

6) Dull knive(s) (Look for torn crop instead of sheared)

7) Wrong type of knife for crop (over-serated, underserated, no serations) (lousy cutting)

8) cutter bar too close to the ground: adjust shoes to raise it up. (Not a good idea to mow anthills).

9) Wet crop. (Don't mow after the dew comes in).

10) Ground speed too high.

11) Improper turn around, The bar plugs when part of it reverses.

Just a few I can think of. The worn bushing is one that threw me. It seems to test OK with no crop present, but the knife travel is poor when it has to dig in. I suppose you could have a shot knive drive, too. Power is one thing, but travel is also what you need to cut hay.

.
The bine is in exellent mechanical shape.None of the above applies, save for the knife bushings which have never been replaced but appear in good condition.Every year i go trough the whole machine before i start cutting.

It cuts the crop fine, but some how it feeds to slow trough the reel and auger and plugging up.
The reel starts to slow down and hop Just before the bine stops altogether. The rollers are next to new.
The only problem i had before in other years was roller wrapping at times when the crop was heavy, never anything like this.

We had a bit of rain last night and the old growth from last year is kinda damp,..maybe that's why.
I did raise the cutterbar 2" with the shoes to clear most of the old damp debrie
