NH 1920 not running right.....

Well, I at least think I have my fuel tank cleaned out. Even this last time the bowl was very clean and so was the filter, but I changed it anyway. Can I remove the injectors and will the dealer check them? I think that will be my cheapest steap in the process of elimination.

Not sure about the injector setup on the 1920 as I never had to pull mine.. but onthe older fords.. many people swapped a possible bad injector with a known good one. to see if the miss jumped to the other cylinder... that way you can trace down if it is a bad injector ( jumps to different cyl).. or a bad pump.. ( miss stays on that cyl regardless of injector installed ).

Also.. be carefull with high pressure diesel ( and oil ). You don't want gang greene /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Not sure about the capability of your dearer, but most can do and if not send them out. You also could consider a diesel engine repair faculity. They specialize in repair and rebuild of injector pumps and injectors.

Wow...I just got off the phone with my local dealer. They can't test them right now because there tester is broken but the replacement price is $205 each and the price for the pump is $1315. I'm gonna have to do a lot of searching for any other options.

You can't get around testing the pump and the injectors unless you wanna go by trail and error and replace the pump and the injectors with used known to be good one's. Or buy new all together. And as for testing: You can get the pump and the injectors testet at big truck places as well. Don't need really the dealer for that.

I spoke with D&W Diesel today,(they do some work for us on our big trucks) and they said they can test both injectors and the pumps and rebuild them if needed. I'm sure this will be a lot cheaper than going through the dealer and buying new. Hopefully, I will be able to get them out this saturday.

Its running!!.....my mothers fiance suggested running some marvel mystery oil in it first before I took the injectors out. He came over, drained the tank and filter completely. Then poured a gallon of MMO in the tank bled the lines until the oil was in the pump. Then filled the tank with diesel. It started as usual. Ran as usual. We cracked all the injectors open to make sure they were getting fuel. Same as before was happening, 2,3,4 would stall the tractor when it was running. 1 would do nothing. He kept it open for about a minute, then all the sudden it started to change. He closed it, then it starting spitting and sputtering, idling up, and then started running fine. It was smoking a little (for obvious reasons) but running fine. That was 2 weeks ago. Still running good this morning. I guess that first injector was stuck.
