I bought a new 2008 NH that is constantly overheating. Last summer, the grill was broke and I just thought it was getting to much trash in the radiater and would keep washing it out. I had a whole new hood installed and it still does it. There is a fuse under the dash that pops usually right before it gets in the red. Then your shut down untill she cools off again. This is really a pain as I cant even finish a single brushog job without getting hot. I really dont care for the design with the oil cooler right in front of the radiater as this seems to limit the flow to it and allows for debris to acculmulate between the two coolers, but thats another story. Do you think there is something going on other than a little dust accumulating between the two coolers?

this is nothing to do with your tractor directly, but we had a towable air compressor that just started overheating one day, radiator is clean, nothing in the way. It was a bad thermostat. we removed it and got the compressor running to finish the job and replaced the thermostat later. sort of the same, the compressor would shut down if the temp got too high, so we had to remove the thermostat to keep working.

Are you sure the overtemperature shut-off is working properly? Have you actually measured the temperature?

That's an excellent suggestion. As cheap as non-contact IR thermometers are, a check would be very helpful.

Derick, I have a similar tractor (though older) and it NEVER gets hot. I've had the screens on the hood completely clogged with lint while mowing and my tractor only got half-way to the top of the green band on the temperature gage. I also don't have any idea what could be causing the fuse to blow. I don't know of any such protection device on our tractors. Can you remember the fuse number? I would check the thermostat for proper operation and replace it as necessary. Also, it's a remote chance, but your thermostat could have been accidently installed backwards (flipped). That would certainly cause overheating. Surely there is a restriction in coolant flow or your gage is reading incorrectly; maybe a bad waterpump. Your tractor should not be overheating under any normal circumstance.

Agreed, and the oil cooler is not the culprit. T-stats do stick sometimes, even new ones.

It could be a bad thermostat, or a clogged air filter. Diesels need an unrestricted air intake and if they don't have that, they will run hot. When's the last time you checked the air cleaner?

sometimes a mouse gets in the air cleaner and builds a nest, mostly in winter when the tractor is warm, i ziptie 1/4 wire around the air intake so they dont get in.
