Okay all - Newbie here that has to relay instructions to another so mechanical work can be frustating. Here we go. My NH 3930 will not start. Wanted to check ignition relay first but my tool man cannot find relay. I checked diagram and thought it was in fuse box but he opened one small fuse box and found only a few fuses. I need instructions to find physical location of relay to test. Second, I read in posts that this can be caused by loose PTO safety switch. I will have him check that also. Thank you ahead of time for your help!:dance1:

You need to start with a plan and not just run around in the dark hoping you will find something.

Step 1. Invest about $12 in an online Workshop Manual

New Holland 3930 Service Manual PDF Download

Step 2. Acquire some basic electrical troubleshooting tools which cost less than $30.

A test light like this one.

A multimeter like this one from Amazon.com

Caution. the meter pointer as shown in my image is not correct for tractor direct current systems.
Set pointer to 20 on left of center on meter

The WSM will have a wiring dagram which you should post here.
The WSM will have a trouble shooting section for the starter. Post it here.

I hope you decide to follow my advice.

I knew I would get this reply and I admit I deserved it after re-reading my post. I have a multi-meter and know the setting for DC. I have checked that the PTO safety switch is working and unplugged (by-passed) the gearbox switch. I used to be able to work on mechanical equipment myself but I am now house bound so I try to direct my bf. He will not give me clear or complete information about exactly what he does so I am the blind leading the blind. He just came in to tell me he has taken out the ignition switch and asked what he needs to test. ARGHHHHH! I tell him to trace the ignition wires and he will find the relay and he says he tried to jump across the starter solenoid. ArgHHHHH! Believe it or not we have fixed many problems with this partnership. Unbelievable, I know. I will post wiring diagram and starter trouble shooting from WSM. I bought him one when he bought the tractor but he has mis-placed it. My Dad is rolling over in his grave, Thanks again Dave. Marilyn

Was it running good when parked? Before taking anything apart, I always check the easy stuff first. Charged battery, loose wires, chewed/corroded wires and if all that checks out.....try jumping the starter from the solenoid. If it cranks (only for a second) you know it’s a safety switch. If it doesn’t, before pulling the starter, remove-battery terminals and clean them with a wire and try jumping again.

start at battery, charged? corroded terminals? sometime they look good but can be black looking and will not pass the amps needed to turn starter. Maybe bench test starter. Then go thru safety switches.
