I have a new 716GC (5 ft) rotary cutter for my TC29D compact. Very nice. But I am not sure of some maintenance points that the manual sort of glosses over. I don't have a giant machine shop, so how do I:
1. Torque each blade carrier bolt to 300 ft-lb. Isn't that a lot? Also, what is to keep the blade carrier from rotating while I am torquing or loosening the nut?
2. Ditto +: 450 ft-lb for the blade carrier (why would I ever need to remove that?)
3. The blades swing free within the blade carrier, which I assume prevents problems when running into, for example, a stump. Therefore, what kind of event would cause the shear bold to break?
4. And finally, when I eventually have to change the gearbox oil, the manual says to raise the cutter to a vertical position to drain the oil. Ha! Ha! Ha! That's nearly 800#. How does one do that? I can sort of imagine pulling it up with a come-along from my barn rafters, but is that practical (and safe)?
Thanks for any help.
