I have a NH 759C backhoe that is a subframe mount. I have noticed that most of the sub frame mounted BH for the TC are not using the top link, just the mount under the drawbar and the mounts under the loader mounts. My BH came with the top link installed. Seems to me like it doesn't need to be on. My purchasing dealer and I are on not very good terms right now. I talked to a few other dealers and they don't know the answer. In the past it hasn't been a big deal becasue the BH would stay on all summer and get taken off in the winter. This summer it will be taken on and off quite a bit sometimes 3 or 4 times a week.

Thanks

you have more of a chance of cracking the housing on the that tractor by not using the top link. The 759 is much bigger and heavier than the 758 which is normally used on the 2120 and TC's

I am going to give you different advice than you got from Spencer. We sell many NH backhoes, including several 2120's with 759C's. Nowhere in the setup or operation literature does it specify the use of a toplink with the subframe mount. The toplink will hold the hoe tighter than the pins and saddle of the subframe mounting; therefore damage to the toplink, its mount and rockshaft housing may occur if the toplink is holding the hoe more rigid than the rest of the mount. The subframe is designed to carry the hoe withut a toplink and one should NOT be used. NH backhoes are built by an outside supplier (Arps), and the presence of a toplink mount on the hoe frames does not necessarily mean it automatically should be used in every application.

I posted this origianlly because I got 2 answers from 2 dealers /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. One said its supposed to be there, the other said it doesn't. So I have the same here. Here are my thoughts. The pin hole on the backhoe is a cat 2 hole. My cat 1 pin is very loose. I adjust the toplink to have a small amount of tension. But when I put my stabilizers down it puts tension back against it. So I used to leave it loose. Usually it didn't bother because the hoe was left on for most of the summer. But this spring along I have had it on and of 3 times already and its gonna get worse this summer. So I used it some with no toplink and have checked the rear housing mount, seems ok.

RickB, I know you mentioned what I mentioned, just wanted to post my thoughts.

I do have another question about the hydraulics. I'm working with a different dealer than my purchasing dealer. So I don't want to get into a he said this you say that, what gives situation. But looking for more of a general answer. With the bucket full of gravel, boom at about a 45 degree angle and crowd cylinder at about 1/2 of its travel. The boom cylinder leaks down an 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Same situation but with bucket empty boom cylinder leaks down 1 inch in 1 hour. This is with the tractor running and hydraulics on, running through backhoe. Is that normal? I think it is. Know I put the bucket flat on the ground with the boom at a 45 angle and try to lift the tractor up with just the boom cylinder. The cylinder starts to pick up the tractor. If I let go of the boom lever (to resting position) the cylinder leaks down about 6" in 10 seconds till all the weight is on the wheels and not on the backhoe. It seems to be worse with the fluid hot but does it the same when it is cold. Is this normal?

If you like you can send me a PM

Thanks
