Hey Guys,

Hoping you can provide some help for me. My Boomer 8n will not start as it should. If I am patient and make 15 to 20 attempts turning it over it will start and run fine. At first I was thinking it may be the glow plug system, but even when it's warmed up if I turn the tractor off and try and restart its the same story. I looked at the service manual and I can't find anything to address this problem. It almost seems that the tractor will only start when the battery starts loosing some of its cranking power.
I checked the fuel solenoid and it is working properly and within tolerances. There are too many relays on this thing to start eliminating them one at a time. Once it starts the tractor does not show a code on the dash so I'm at a loss.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Get it started and leave it run. I let one sit and run well over an hour the other day. When you get it running pour some anti gel fuel supplement in the tank. You see w once you get the engime warm, just let it run and the heat off the engine will work its way to the fuel lines, injector pump, fuel filter ECT. Adding a fuel supplement and it will start mixing itself while the tractor is running. After you let it run about an hour, turn it off and see if that don't solve your problem. Diesel engine act funky and cranky in cold weather. You got to be patient with them.

Philip, Thanks for your thoughts. This problem actually started before the deep freeze and I put fuel conditioner in my tank so I'm still thinking electrical. From what I have been reading I'm thinking I may have a relay or neutral safety switch issue. Looks like I should start with the seat switch. Can anyone tell be how to properly bypass the seat switch? It has four prongs on it so I just need to understand where to put the jumpers.
From there Ill do to the fuses and relays.

Don't know if this would apply to your machine, but on my Valtra 900 when it started having difficulty starting, it turned out to be a weak lift pump. Might be worth checking out.
