NH TC21D Boomer w/60
This question is simply out of curiosity, nothing more or less...

Does anyone know where NH tractors are designed and engineered?

I'm interested in the actual engineering, not simply manufacturing as they are two different things. It's quite common today for a product to be engineered in one country but actually made in another.

I'm particularly interested if the Boomer series was designed (engineered) in Europe, if NH did it themselves or if they contracted the design work to an outside firm or firms (also quite common).

Misinformation....

Technically, Fiat is a brand of the Case New Holland Corp. Here's a nice summary from one of many investor profiles:

"CNH Global N.V., prior to November 1999 known as New Holland N.V., is involved in the engineering & manufacturing of agricultural equipment such as tractors & combines, as well as construction equipment & machinery. In addition, the company provides financing facilities to its dealers & end-users. CNH products are sold under the brand names: New Holland, Case, Case IH, Fiatallis, Fiat-Hitachi, O&K, Steyr, Fermec & Link-Belt. The original company New Holland N.V. started trading on the New York Stock Exchange on 1 November 1996. On 12 November 1999 the company acquired Case Corporation and subsequently renamed the combined operations as CNH Global N.V. The company is based in the USA, with main operations in North America, Europe & Brazil, but is officially registered in the Netherlands."

Misinformation...

Technically, non-technically, and in all other relevant ways, Case New Holland is owned by Fiat. At least, 71% of it is, and it's considered a subsidiary of The Fiat Group.

What you're talking about are brand names, which has nothing to do with ownership of the company itself. FiatAllis, Fiat-Hitachi and, oh yeah, New Holland and Case are just brand names. The company is Case New Holland Corporation and it's a subsidiary of Fiat.

For further information on Case New Holland's relationship with Fiat, check out http://www.fiatgroup.com/eng/gruppof/ef1gruppof.htm in general, and http://www.fiatgroup.com/eng/informazioni/ef2informaz-3.htm, in particular.

I stand corrected. Thanx for the detailed information.

Jay - No problem. But, with all that out of the way, I'll be the first to say that I wouldn't even consider that in my decision to purchase. In today's global economy, things are rarely what they seem. It's all just big-money politics, anyway.

Besides, my first car was a Fiat 850 Sport Spyder 2-seater convertible. In my experience, the only thing Fiat has never been able to design and manufacture is a decent working door handle - and no tractor I've ever been interested in has even had one. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Mark, I knew I was correct as not only did I go to the FIAT website which gave me the information, but a dealer gave me all the manufactuers in the world, who owns who and when the takeover was transacted. When I saw Jays post I was taken back a little as I knew he was wrong but really did not care as it does not influence me in the least either. I used to rub it in to old JimBinMichigan with his mighty TC21 with no power steering that his unit was not just the proud member of the CASE/International/New Holland line but owned by good ole FixItAgainTony, Rat...

P.S. what ever happened to JimBininMichigan and the mighty TC21, my guess is he traded it in on a BX2200 and is to embarrased to get back on. (just kidding of course), I think the New Hollands are great, especially since technically, I'm a member of the FIAT society with my 1974 International 454D with "Lightning Shift Transmission", shifts faster then you can say it!

PS. PS., I've worked on the very same model Spyder to which you refer, over and over as a matter of fact. I don't remember the door handle being all that deluxe.

You know, Mark, I can't remember a thing about the door handles, in spite of the fact that I did a lot of sanding and preparing my cousin's Spyder for painting after it collided with a Pontiac. Unfortunately, I was driving the Spyder at the time of the collision./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Bird - Which I assume is why you were doing all the sand and prep work. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I never hit anything with mine, and I sure am glad because there's not much there to hit with. One problem I used to have was the same one motorcyclists have - people pulling out in front of them. I put illegal head lamps on it so people would have no trouble seeing me. Of cource that meant I had to install relays right at the lamps because the existing wiring and switch wouldn't handle the extra wattage...
