Yes,we still had 2 Servels until 1969 when I opened my refrigeration shop. Then we had to get new refrigerators and sold the 2 old working Servels. I wish I still had one. They never broke if you kept the unit cleaned except when you poked holes in the freezer with an icepick and let the ammonia out. WHEW! In 1965 Hurricane Betsy knocked our electric out 2 weeks and we had all the neighbors food stuffed in our 2 little refrigs.

I use hot water to thaw out lots of things. I probably should have left that out. They are trying to steam a water tower open out in South Dakota today. The thing sprung a leak and now the inside is freezing.



I love winter.

thanks for posting that.. My uncle wa a plumber, and always claimed that hot water pipes froze first but this is the first time I 've seen it explained.

I bought mine in 1983 and it was about 35 years old then.

still works too good (temp control died 10 years ago).
