The one comparison point where NH does better is in loader capacity. The 35D with the 16LA is has better specs than anything except the L4610. They're only modestly better, but given that Kubota says they put a heavier front axle and improved power steering on the 4610 to support the loader, I'm led to believe that the NH must be a little heavier built than the 3710 or 4310 (and much more than the 3410, which has the la482).

I noticed one other oddity in the specs for the NH. Though the dealer said that the NH 35D-45D are the same except for the engine, the 40D and 45D have a lower top speed than the 35D (by ~1mph) according to the brochure. Strange.

Chris, I have seen the same top-speed differences in the class-II Boomers. The TC25D and TC33D both are rated one mph slower than the TC29D. Maybe its a typo??

Might also be caused by using different tires between the models when they did the 'D' model speed tests. I noticed that the gear versions of the TC25, TC29 and TC33 have only a 0.1 top speed difference, with the TC25 being the 'fastest'.

I think the extra 1 MPH is due to the difference in top RPMS - 2600 for the 25D, 2800 for the 29D and 33D.

I wondered about the RPM question too, but wasn't sure how related they were in HST. Obviously in gear transmissions they relate directly, but how close in HST?

OK, I thought I'd post a followup since I visited a local kubota dealer today and drove a L4310HST.

My reactions were these:

1) the engine on the kubota was much smoother
2) the hydro transmission was very smooth, much smoother than the NH. That said, it also had a little more coast to it (that is, if you step forward then immediately step reverse, it slowly transitions for you). Probably easier on the transmission, but not as quick.
3) no dualpower, but three HST ranges. I think dualpower is better
4) turning radius is good, maybe not quite as good as the NH, but that's subjective
5) NH visibility is much better than the kubota to the front--the kubota has the traditional long, flat hood as opposed to the NH sloping design
6) the NH loader stick is better positioned than the kubota
7) the kubota controls seem "tougher"
8) more steel on the kubota

I was quoted $22,100 for an L4610 + LA852, folding ROPS and block heater (including the $1400 rebate). A Bush Hog RD finish mower was an additional $1895. I know Carver Equip can make me a better deal (and this guy said they've done warranty service for out-of-state purchases when I mentioned this in reference to sales tax). Again, nice guy, spent a good 40 minutes with me. They carry Super UDT and know the difference. All the filters for a 50 hour service were on a shelf in the store.

This is clearly a better price than the NH dealer gave (but I see in another thread that they have rebate deals going too).

The only question now is, can I plunk down $25k for a tractor, loader, and finish mower. Take a deep breath...

Take a look at the TC40D or45. The 4 cyl should be smoother and get better fuel mileage. I almost signed for a 35 but at the last minute went for the 40 with NH finance deal. I think I made the right choice. PS...your prices look good.
