I purchased 30 acres of ground that has been fallow for many years. It has been a dream of mine to start a farm, and the land is the beginning step to that. I will be building this from scratch, there are no buildings on the property, and I have some, but by no means all, of the equipment to get started. I took the necessary soil samples and worked with an agronomist, I'll be planting an initial crop of alfalfa and orchard grass, with an oats cover crop, as soon as things dry our here in Ohio enough to work the ground. I already have 7 acres where my house is and a T2320 (45hp) New Holland to use on that land and an adjacent 9 acre field that I maintain (but don't own). Naturally, with the increase in acreage, I needed to increase my fleet in both size and hp (my excuse anyway), so I bought a 2014 T4.95. I'll be sizing the hay equipment off of this tractor and using the smaller tractor for tedding, raking, and moving bales since it has a FEL. First cutting will be large round bales, then the plan is to move into small squares. Year 1 I will be making hay off of roughly 24 acres, with hopefully more to come.
Looking forward to getting started, thought I would share.
