From day one with this tractor I hated how the exhaust exited the tractor. I would often get off the tractor with a massive headache and also my loader arms were completely black. I had experimented with this set up first. I just had a local muffler shop put this together for me. It definately helped but I just didnt like it.

I then decided I would try a vertical exhaust set-up. This is what I came up with. This is so much better and I notice no smell whatsoever. I have the ROPS folded down as you can see, however the pipe is just a bit shorter than the ROPS unfolded. I don't have any trees that will cause any problems.

What do you guys think?

Looks good. But I would have it ripped off in a heartbeat. Maybe I need to trim my trees up higher :)

Forgot to mention that in case of that happening I made it so that it would break away by using automotive exhaust tubing from where it extends up past the loader tower/arms.

All I need to do now is to add a heat shield around the bottom where it begins vertical up to the top of the loader arm where the automotive pipe starts. I was thinking of using something like this and tacking it the the "U" bolt part of the clamps to secure it. I suppose it would be mainly for looks though.

Looks very nice....great workmanship!
You might want to add a flapper on top to prevent water getting down the stack.

I too have disliked the exhaust set up on my TC-40 ever since I bought it. The exhaust pipe goes straight down from the engine and takes a very slight bend outward therefore blowing exhaust on the aft portion of the left front tire and any tall weeds that might be around. I'm thinking of a possible brush fire. Does anyone know where I might find an aftermarket (or NH part) verticle exhaust stack that will fit my tractor?
You have done what I would like to end up with, including heat shield and earlier mentioned flapper cap. Do you notice any harmful heat build up on the fiberglass body area closest to the exhaust pipe?
Good job and post more photos if you apply the heatshield, etc.
Just noticed your heave duty brush guard in front of the radiator.Nice! Does it lift with the cowling or remain in place when opening? Can you tell me where you got it? I want one too!

That is the New Holland brush guard that is available. I have one on my TC-24D as well. I believe I paid about $190 for mine. At this point I believe it has save me probably $1500 from the amount of time it has stopped stuff from hitting the front of the tractor that otherwise would've busted the grill/headlights. It folds down so that you can open close the hood.

Nice job on the exhaust stack, I also dislike the way most manufacturers are routing their exhaust.

On a different subject, nice looking trailer. Is it a 20'+4' Appalachian?
