NH Transport /Setup Fee

I test drove a new TC35D yesterday at the local New Holland dealer. A very nice machine by the way, but when the salesman completed the price quote there was a charge on the last line of the sheet for $450.00 (Transport /Setup fee). When I questioned this I got the impression that this fee was non-negotiable. I am trying to justify this charge in my head against quotes from other dealers. This dealer said for the 50 hour service they would send a technician to my property to perform the service and I would only be charged for the fluids and filters. Other than that there was no other significant benefit in the deal coming my way.

Is this a common practice used by New Holland dealers?

Would it have been different if the $ 450 was buried in the price and not broken out ???

This is a fairly common practice in big ticket sales. The customer often focusses on the initial big $$ and is less likely to dwell on the incremental adds. You walk away saying ..." it's only $ 18,500, when the final cost may be $ 18,500 plus $ 450, plus $ 125, plus ...."

Just compare final cost ( including first year service, delivery, and warranty support ) against equal packages.

Our setup cost and delivery charges are included in the pricing we give we do not list it as a seperate line item, but it has been figured into our cost when pricing.

I wasn't charged any extra for the delivery of my NH.

There was one dealer I looked at who didn't charge add anything extra for delivery and also did the 50 hour service for free! (You were there once. it's one that you checked out on your way home one evening)

Check out that dealership again and get a quote from them. See if their quote with delivery is any different than the other dealer's quote with delivery added on. If you're more comfortable with the dealer you just checked out, you might be able to negotiate the $450 down to match the other place.

Hey,

Just sitting here waiting on the tractor delivery. SHould be here in an hour or so according to the dealer. As for charges, if there was a setup fee, it was wrapped up into the original price the dealer quoted me. THe only charge added on was I believe $125 or so dollars the dealer said NH charges for processing the paperwork. But then my dealer said nothing of sending anyone out at the 50 hour mark either.
