Nimco valve reseal instructions

I have a Massey GC2300/2350 and the Nimco FEL control leaks - Nimco 10339-2S. I have searched the posts and learned enough to be dangerous.

I have diagrams and some comments about how easy replacing the o-rings is: That it can be done on the tractor as long as the hydraulic system is unloaded (no pressure). Just use a few old towels to avoid a complete mess. If you can fix a leaky faucet you are good to go.

My question: Is there a real "how-to" for changing the o-rings? There is not much that I cannot successfully do, but a good tutorial would make me feel more comfortable. I don't want to screw it up - as the dealer would luv to sell me a new valve. Suggestions?

I received ZERO help with this query for help. Total zero!

On my own I came up with a couple drawings - from supposed "official" sources. No assistance as to what to remove first, nor comments on the wonderful valve mounting system.

My wife did step and fetch for the oddball tools needed. You will find both SAE and Metric hardware being used. You will need a stout pry bar to reinstall the valve mount to the frame (poor design). Having a few locking grippers and some baling wire is also good to have.

When opened up - what did I find? The diagrams supplied were of the same valve by part number, however - mine was different (thank you Nimco). Source of the leak was the missing lower o-ring on the left side of the valve. Guess the high quality Nimco "white" o-ring had dissolved.

I am 76 and quite crippled. It took nearly three hours to do the job - most of that time figuring what to do next. My original selling dealer when I bought the tractor new is of no help at all. Said they could order a new valve for me - never even bothered to call back with the price. Too busy selling heavy construction equipment. POX on them!!!

Later I have some woods road repair to do. That will test for leaks. So far on a barn run, none!!!

I am very disappointed with the level of help I received here on TBN. Good thing I have been around machinery most of my life and hydraulics are not really new to me. Else, some dealer would have been cleaning my wallet!

Where does exactly the valve leaks? How much does it leak? What O-rings are you replacing exactly?

If it comes from one of the spools, changing O-rings won't usually fix that. The valve sealing relies on very close tolerances between the valve body and the spool. The o-rings are there mostly so moisture doesn't get in and to keep the residual oil inside the valve.

If you do end up needing a new valve, Surplus Center offers a couple joystick valves somewhere between $150 to $300 I believe.

Regarding help from TBN, keep in mind that most users only come here when they have free time. I honestly didn't even noticed this thread before, otherwise would try to help you sooner.

Zero help?.........It only took you 2 years to do it......Some dealer that clean wallets maybe could do it sooner. :laughing:
