Nissan now with Cummins power

We'll have to see if it can answer the magic question, is it a cost effective option? Since Nissan is not saying how much it will cost or the mileage and with how much HP/ torque that they are saying the Cummins is going to put out I don't know what market Nissan is aiming for. It's clearly more powerful than the Dodge, by quite a bit, so we can assume that it's not going to get better EPA numbers than the Ram 1500 diesel, it could be worse. My guess is that they may be trying for the RV crowd.

Shoot, Newblue - I didn't see your new thread before I put out a similar one, sorry!

Nissan doesn't thrill me - they have routinely been in the back of the pack for quality & design but then again, so was Dodge when Cummins first was used, as they were late to the market. So maybe good things will happen?

They are on the right track with a smaller displacement & (hopefully) lower cost/price, lighter-duty diesel. I would expect 30 mpg highway as per the original light duty diesel / heavy vehicle combos of yore (see: GM gas conversion engine debacle).

If they can get this combo back, I'm interested. If not, forget it.

"The Cummins, in final stages of development, will be rated more than 300 horsepower and roughly 550 pounds-feet of torque, Nissan said"

Been driving small Nissan pickups for decades. Would really like a Titan!

Strange to see a V configuration from Cummins. Hope Diamondpilot sees. This, he called this a while back in a diesel truck thread.

Cummins built V8 diesels for many years for large trucks and the military. They had a 555 and the V903. I believe the V903 is still used in the military and making over 500hp.

It's been known for a few years that Nissan has been testing Cummins diesels. This is the engine that Ram asked for before the bankruptcy. Similar to the baby DMax, it was just shelved.

Interesting. Now nissan has "fallen".

Who's next? Ford?

My bet... Toyota.

I seen it. Was actually at Cummins yesterday for some other business down in Columbus Indiana. I was confident it was coming.

I am still not sold on diesel in a 1/2 ton. Especially with engines like the Eco Boost.
