Tractor
Challenger MT285
Hi folks,
I just brought a used challenger MT285 a couple of weeks ago. It was working very well until today. As I was driving from 1 location to another about 15-20 minutes drive I realized that I was running out of fuel. I pulled into a field and turned off the tractor but the tractor would not stop. I ideled way down and pushe to forward peddle down fast to stall the engine. Then when I tryed to start it again the was no lights, no dash lights, no horn, no ignition switch response of any kind. It is like someone removed the battery from the tractor... Also I turned off the ignition switch yesterday with a different key as the tractor key had fallen out of the ignition while I was driving it. I later found the tractor key and reinserted it to start and stop several times after and all seemed to be OK.

Anyone have any suggestions. I have the transmission and PTO in neutral, I sit on the seat to start, but nothing from the tractor..... Here's hoping some one may know where to look....

Cheers,
Sandy

Sounds like a loose connection. Start with the battery terminals then the battery wires at the frame and starter. Check all fuses including the in-line fuses.

Welcome to TBN
Clean/tighten all FOUR battery cable connections. Check battery voltage.

I don't know your machine, but check the seat safety switch is sitting exactly where it is supposed to be. Had that happen on a JD790 and it took me hours to find it. Looked good but was just off enough to kill everything.

I would start troubleshooting at the ignition switch that you turned the tractor off by using another key. Sounds like the switch was damaged which allowed the original key to fall out or you damaged it by using a different key and no current or voltage is now flowing through the switch.
