That's all you need to know in order to be a sod layer! And let me asure you, It's not even that complicated.

But is it ever hard work.....

We lay it with a machine. (And yes, I did forget to take a picture of that machine) Still, lots of hard work.

This is a load of Zoysia, being laid down on a golf course driving range. There's about 1/3rd of an acre's worth on that rig.

And an armoured car full of cash to pay for it......

Lots of places are going to the sod rolls instead of per/pallet. When we do municipal road jobs the 'edge strip' is generally specified as the roll type.. What do you guys lay them with.. we use what looks like a skid steer, with a couple arms and sliding pipe/axle attachent.

Lays alotta sod fast.. if you can afford it!

The machine we use to lay these sod rolls with looks sorta like the fork-lifts you see hanging off the back of lumber and masonary product delivery trucks. It's equipped with tracks.

It takes longer to "un-tarp" and unload the truck than it does to lay that load on the ground. So far, we,ve put down a little over 18 acres of Zoysia this year. Just about done!!!! We re-shaped a creek bed running across the course, then re-did all the greens, tee complex's, and driving range. Final task was to re-sod 15 of the fairways.

We did a complete remodel on the clubhouse last fall/winter, then a facelift on the course. 4.2 mil altogether.... Glad it's about done. Things can get back to "normal", whatever normal is..... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

This is the oldest private club in town. There are now 8 "majors" and a few semi-privates. It is getting to be a very competitive business getting members. We have to have the latest and greatest to attract new blood.

I came here back in the late '80's when farming was hitting the skids. I planned on leaving as soon as things started looking up in the AG world. 18 years later......

In a little over 2 years, I get to walk away with a pension, health insurance 'till I'm 67, and a history of 20 years worth of steady paychecks. So far, none of my cornfields have matched that offer......

Not really.... The one we had rented. (It left yesterday) was more of a dedicated sod layer, and less of a skidsteer. It has tracks set out wide and the sod roll was carried between them. The operator stood on a platform behind the motor, which is directly behind the sod roll.

Clear as mud......?????

I believe that's a truck full of membership fees to the country club on that trailer! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Zoysia is pretty expensive here!
