I was starting my tractor the other day. It was cold so I cycled the glowplugs a couple time back to back. Turned the key and a pop sound and nothing. no dash lights, nothing tractor was dead. Well the positive cable was loose. Tightened it and tractor starts, blinker work, guages seem to work ok just no head light or horn.
Is their a fuse that the headlighs and horn share? anything else it could be?
thanks

Don't have an answer but here is a schematic for your tractor.

It looks like your horn and lights are both on the 15amp fuse..

wendelin,
I'm going to take a shot at this. Since everything seemed to be working correctly before you used the glow plugs, I am guessing it had something to do with that. Looking at the wiring diagram that Mickey_Fx posted I see that the glow plugs, the horn, and light are sharing the same ground. Since glow plugs are resistance electric heat they pull more current than the lights or horn. This may have been all that was needed to burn a loose or partially broken ground wire open. The first thing I would do is look for a loose or broken ground wire. You can check the fuses visually or with a 12 volt test lamp. You can pick one up at any parts store for a few bucks. I am having trouble with that wiring diagram. It is more like a connection diagram, because it does not show the internal routing of the switches. Does your tractor have 10 warning lights or could it be that they are duplicating the warning lights on the diagram to show additional connections? If its not the ground, post your progress and we'll take it from there.

OK I will look it over tonight when I get home. Can you tell me where the fuses are located? and where to start looking for the ground?
My tractor has a loader on it and sometime it is hard to see where thangs are and even sometime harder to get too.
thanks

My theory on the ground burning because of the glow plugs is flawed. The glow plugs ground directly through the block. I've never looked at an F model, but the YM's have a plastic fuse box about 2 x 3 on the lower left side of the steering cowl, just above the clutch pedal with a snap close lid. I think I remember seeing a picture of an F model fuse block on this forum. Do I site search for fuse holder, fuse panel, or fuse block. Still check for a loose ground. Thats what happened on my 2500. The diagram only shows one ground, so that is probably just for diagram purposes to show which wires are grounded, and doesn't indicate a specific location. They are usually black. Look for wires that are just connected to the block or alternator housing. Take the test light and see if there is power on the ground wire for the headlights, if there is, the ground is open. For checking the fuses, you should have power on both sides of the fuse with the key on. If not, then the fuse is open. Also check the fuse holders, as they can be corroded.
If you need to disconnect or reconnect the battery: Always disconnect the negative cable first. When hooking it back up, always reconnect the negative cable last. If you put your wrench on the positive post and the negative cable (ground) is still connected, and your wrench touches any metal part it will arc. If it is the radiator that the wrench touches it will arc a hole in your radiator and then you have a radiator to fix or replace.

Hello, I have a fx42d, I think it is the same tractor only with turbo. Thanks for the pics. Mickey It looks just like mine, fuses under white plastic box on the left side.

MAN, Mickey that is one clean tractor.

Thanks for the complement. It's not that clean now. Bought the tractor from TractorErnie and that was how clean it was when I bought it.

Thanks for the help guys!!!! I got a little time today to look at it. I took the fuse cover off and I ran my finger across the fused to wipe the dirt off of them. Then the lights worked. So I took my air hose and blew out the dirt and put the cover back on. Light and horn work. Should I clean the contact points where the fuses tough? Can I buy these fuses at the autoparts store? I though they would be a blade fuse not the round glass fuse.
thanks again
