heat exchanger

The water runs through the heat exchanger for heat then to the heat exchanger for hot water.

As you can see, the basement is still a work in progress. I need more hours in a day. Oh well, one thing at a time.

The dog or the woodburner?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The numbers are off the top of my head and are close. If I remember I'll dig out the actual $$ for the furnace.

The furnace was around 5K if I remember right, thinking about it that sounds a little high. Thats with the dual fuel and stainless steel firebox. The radient heat, ductwork, installation, 2 inches of insulation UNDER the concrete in the basement and garage, Vapor barrier all around the edge, fuel tank, 6 in conduit through the footer to the manifold, concrete for the pad (found out that the wife is a natural concrete finisher, good thing, cause I knew I wasnt), manifolds, and heat exchangers totaled up to around 11-12K. I got the setup I wanted and all of the extras I wanted. Price wise, it is about equal to a regular furnace with the extras. Can you heat a home for less? Yep, but you only get one shot to do radiant heat in a concrete floor. The PEX tubing isn't that bad, but the copper manifolds are a chunk of change.

To do a add on wood only, the cost would be less since you already have the system to transport heat in the house and you have a backup in your original furnace. It wouldnt be that bad to do yourself if you had a existing heating system. Pipe in the ground, connect to either a heat exchanger or plumb to existing hot water heat.

BTW, the dog was 50 bucks. There is a product of a neighborhood indescrestion somewhere in her ancestery. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
