Kubota RTV 1100c, JD 740,Kioti DK 40 with KL401 loader .
I love my 1999 massey ferg.1240 4X4 but I live in Southern michigan in the middle of the state (near OH & IND. boarder)and there are NO massey dealers within 100 miles of me that I know of.When I bought my tractor there were 3 within a 30 mile radius of my home, they have all closed up shop.I called massey(agco corperate offices)and they tell me do not expect dealers anytime soon.I guess its time to sell my massey since the corp office does not care about there customers service needs.coobie

Sell it. I hope you get what you want for it. If you have another brand dealer closer, buy that. Go for it, don't wait on us.

I wonder if you would have this same thought process if this was your tractor?Maybe you have plenty dealers in your area which is good.It is a sad day when you cannot supply service to folks after the sale. When I talked to the Vice president of customer service in alanta Ga.(agco corp) he told me maybe I should buy green or a orange tractor,go figure. You are correct don,t wait on us(Massey)you will get crappy customer service.coobie

If it was my tractor, I'd be looking for the next closest dealer of MF, or ANY other dealer which I could get parts and service through. Just because he's got a green or orange or blue sign on the dealership doesn't mean he can't get red parts. Dealer's around here will work on anything and can get parts for pretty much anything.

If Chapman Tractor in Waynesboro, MS, my local dealer, closes the doors tomorrow, I'm not going to sell my tractor. I'm going to find someone else to do business with. I already have a local independent guy that said he could get parts for anything, and my local NAPA guy has been known to pull some stuff out of his hat also.

I wouldn't get mad or ill at MF and sell my tractor. Did MF close those dealerships? Probably the individual owner did, but I could be wrong.

You seemed to be set on getting rid of your tractor, so I was wishing you the best. Is your tractor in good working order, well maintained, adequate for the tasks you need performed? Or is it a rundown POS? Or are you just PO'd and want to vent?

If you want to vent, get after it, I'll listen. If you really want a new tractor, get after it, I'll spread the word in Southeast MS, but I can't promise anything. But I don't see where MF is the problem unless AGCO closed those dealers or stopped supplying them with equipment and parts.

Would you sell your dog if your vet closed?

What he said, when the warrentee is up on your car or truck do you take it to the dealer ??? you are like most of us folks here, oil change ? take it to wal-mart, brakes go out , take it to midas, and so on. If I need my tractor serviced, I don't care what color paint they sell just want my red tractor fixed. I'm not trying to be an, a double SS hole but its the same thing getting repairs done. but it does suck not having a brand dealer close by.
best of luck

Fist off my tractor is in excellant condition.I do my own service, and no I would not be caught dead in WAL-MART.One dealer passed away(dead)the other 2 closed up shop and moved south.I have talked to area reps, the main office in alanta Ga.they just say OH well if you need parts order them over the net or drive to get them.Have any of you ever tryed to order perma-tran hydro.fluid?Around here the other tractor dealers don,t seem to know what that is,so I had it shipped here after calling massey. If some of you think I don,t like my massey Please read my post again,I believe I stated I love my tractor.I just want a LOCAL dealer who i can drive and get filters, parts and so on from without driving 100 miles to get or not have to orde rthem on line.I bought this tractor& loader brand new expecting to keep in the rest of my life since I am getting near retirement age. Some folks just don,t want to go out an spend more money and have more payments, me included. So if you think that I am a little upset with massey I guess I am.coobie

I'd venture a guess you'll find a few disgruntled Deere owners, a few unhappy Kubota owners, oh, a few irate Kioti owners, ect, if you ask around. Not every buyer is pleased with every aspect of every purchase. I'm sorry things worked out as the did for you. But as they say, that's life.

I'm working on year #37 with my Massey. I've watched a couple dealers come and go. Nearest WAS 12 miles. It's now 43 miles. I'm not so concerned with warranty issues after 36+ years, so I'm out of that loop. I bought owners, service, and parts manuals with every piece of equipment I own. ALL of the major manufacturers have on line parts distribution, either directly through the parent company, or through individual dealers. I've yet to find a rural locale that doesn't have an "all brands" farm equipment service shop that stands head and shoulders above the rest. They can do any service/repairs that you can't do yourself.

In that "perfect world" MF would have kept the dealer near you open. It ain't a perfect world.

I'm sure Massey Ferguson/AGCO would have preferred that dealer thrived and stayed open too.

It's the 4th of July. Show some of that great American Spirit! Adapt, improvise and overcome.

Hey Coobie, I hear your concerns. Since I also have an MF 1240 I see it this way, namely if the machine is in good shape and has low hours there will probably be no need to see a dealer for a long long time. I too perform all the routine service, its simple and fun to do and all thats needed is the service manual. NAPA has always supplied high quality filters for all my equip, they had no problem getting me the required MF filters, made by WIX, same as what originally came off. They also sell very high quality trans fluid that matches Permatran. I wouldn't hesitate using any of these NAPA oils/filters for service.

It boils down to this, you won't need an MF dealer at all, unless you really have a serious internal problem. The key as I see it is to take care of your tractor to avoid such problems. Just run it and enjoy that fine little tractor. Good luck!
