Lookie what I found
welder1.jpg

Its at least 33 years old and seems to work. The price was right. Free is hard to beat. I changed the oil and dumped out the varnish and added gas. A little fuel down the throat and zoooooooommmm she fired. The gebset seems to work, the only thing I put on it was a trouble light. The welder works and I scared some metal  with it. I built a puddle and then ran out of gas /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Didnt put to much in to start with, I need to pick up some tommorow.

I really dont have a lot of info on it. the plates are covered in greasy dirt. Hope to clean them off and have a look. I think the genset is 5Kw not sure on the welder specs. I tried the rods in the can that went with the welder, could get a spark, that was about it. I had some new 6011 1/8th rods and they drew a arc and kept burning.

Now, if I only had some skill .........

Practice with some 6013's... (6011's are what some call "farmer rods". They will weld through rust, paint, you name it, but they will spit and splatter all over the place.) Run some long beads.... keep doing it until you run out of rods or gas...... It will come to you!

If you can find some welding classes go for it, you won't be sorry.

Gary

PS. Can't beat the price!

Yeah, I keep coming back to the price thing to. It was family owned and the family member never could weld very well and he bought a regular (quiet) generator for when he looses power. It was going to get junked and he asked if I wanted it.

6013, will do. I need a new ground clamp and a battery so I will be making a run to TSC.

Some people have all the luck. me I am always a day late and a dollar short. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif buy a auto-darking helmet well worth the money. good luck, have fun and becareful

Well, if it works for more than 3 uses then I will call it luck. Most used stuff I get I get to invest a few hundred in and then junk them.

I have my fingers crossed on this one.

I went with a cheap flip down from TSC. IF I can actually stick metal together, I will look at the auto darks. Like I said, been burned before, trying not to put a lot of money into it.

Welder works just like it should, put a new battery in it and it fired right up after choking for just a few seconds. High idle works, which I knew. I was told low idle didnt, well it seems to putt right down when you set it there.

I burnt 2 6011's and 2 of what I got with the welder 310-16's probably 1/16th.

Not to awful for a first try (IMHO /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

The 310-16 is on top. It burnt fast but seemed to not splatter as much, and it is nice and shiney. The 6011 looks like a regular (bad /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) weld.

I found out that the 310-16 is a stainless alloy rod not good for regular steel. But it is pretty easy to get a pretty weld out of it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Come payday I will swing over to TSC an get a small box of 6013's

I'll agree with Gary, the 6011 is a great general purpose rod.
