Every year, the same grumble about the constant wind here on the ranch and loving my F3990 w/ a side discharge deck. Without changing to a rear discharge, I tried last year to figure out if part of the grass collector could be used to blow the grass behind the machine...I think it would just clog up, at best.

Someone today said maybe a soft cab, or partial cab...I guess I never thought of that. It'd be pretty hot but I hate getting covered and I get poison ivy blown on me as well.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Besides changing the deck, and I do have the mulching kit.

I do have the mulching kit.
Just to clarify, you have mulching blades and a block plate covering the chute?
I have been a rear discharge promoter/user for years because I hate grass blowing on me and I'm a schizophrenic no pattern or seems no pattern mower and I like using both sides of the deck for close mowing. I have owned three Fs and waiting on number four F mowers. I've ordered the mulching kit for the F2690 4wd and a ZG724 that I have bought from Barlows and waiting for delivery.
I've installed or had installed on side discharge decks on a BX2370 and a small ZG121 mulching kits and no grass on me and use both sides of the deck and no windrows as long as grass isn't 8"s tall when I mow. With the discharge plate covering the exhaust chute I can't figure how your getting grass on you unless the wind is so strong it's blowing off the yard that you have cut. Not saying it isn't true but very strange.

JohnThomas -

I purchased the unit used, basically new, for a steal...so I can't complain too much unfortunately. If I was buying new, yes I would have purchased rear discharge. The grass I cut is often pretty tall field grass and could be damp.

On the mulching kit, I'm told by a picture, that I have the mulching kit from my dealer. He said it is basically the baffle at the rear of the deck? I do not have mulching blades installed or a block plate. Perhaps my dealer was mistaken, we had to find a picture on a simple Google search as we were just emailing back and forth.

I'm not sure that I could block the chute 100%, just due to the tall grass sometimes. Unless it's easily adjustable from the seat?

Could you flip the deck vertical, take a couple of photos and post here so we can see what you have?

The mulching kit, which I've personally installed on one of my Kubotas and have two currently on order and have had another one installed on a BX2370 by dealer has a under the deck extra baffle that recirculates the grass for recutting and directing away from the exit chute, mulching blades and a fixed chute blocking plate. If yours isn't these parts I'm going to have to say you do not have a Kubota mulching kit installed on your machine and that's why your getting grass on you when you mow. Add the missing parts or a Kubota mulching kit ($250 to $300 depending on deck size and Kubota model or these are the prices I've paid at the Kubota dealer) or a Kubota mulching kit with all parts for your deck and machine and I'll almost guarantee you won't get grass on yourself when you mow unless your mowing in near tornado wind. If grass is to high and locks up the blades, not the chute since there is no longer a chute to block, then raise the deck with the hyd deck lift and mow then remow at the reduced grass level and make sure it's dry.:2cents:

Helmet and Visor.

I don't miss that at all on my old SD decks.

I was searching the ZD1211 mower on the Kubota byuld your own site and saw where one can add mulching kit for like $299 which includes baffle, blades and chute blocker or for $279 one can order a factory or dealer installed driver controlled blocking plate, no baffle and no blades just a wire that lifts/opens or closes a blocking plate with controller mounted on the mower near the driver.

I wouldn't mow without my mulching kits on the bx2680 and f2690, JT said mow when the grass is dry. That is correct, in my area right now that is hard to do, so sometimes during spring mowing it is a pain, but I can live with that because the rest of the year is great using the mulching kit.

I checked last night and I couldn't find a mulching kit for my RCK72P-F39 deck on Messick's website.

I emailed my dealer to see what they could find.

Not sure if this is of any help, but when I first bought my zero turn mower, I put on some supper aggressive, high lift mulching blades and could hardly breath when mowing because of all the air and dust they pushed out from under my deck. I went back to the factory blades and it was night and day better.
