Well for the first time since I bought this property 5 years ago, I have no moles. And I have to offer a great big thank you to my neighbor, who showed me his ingenious solution. My neighbor owns a small excavating business. And one day, I saw him walking all over his yard, behind this compact double drum vibratory trench compactor. well when I asked him what he was doing. He told me the heavy vibrations, played havoc on the moles and their little underground expressways
The next day he came over and ran it on my yard, in a 15' grid. that was three weeks ago And I haven't had a mole mound since. Its strange though the neighbor on the other side was just telling me that this was the worst year he had ever seen for moles.

Please explain the 15' grid. Do you mean he ran the compactor in 15' x 15' squares starting at one corner of the yard? Seems like our yard has moles when it's not too wet or too dry. Right now we are very dry & the ground has cracked - not a mole in sight. I assume that the vibration scares them away. How often does your neighbor run this over his yard?

I have tried many methods to get rid of the moles in my yard. I've been battling for 4 years. Insecticide to kill grubs: temporary, moles come back after 6 weeks. Poison pellets: moles didn't eat it. Run over mole hills with mower: moles didn't care, left bald spots in yard, made neat clouds of dust. Dug up mounds to find tunnel and poured mix of bleach and ammonia: slowed activity and moles began digging shallower tunnels. Shallow tunnels allowed me to find the tunnels and I placed spike traps on the tunnels. Definitely got 1 mole and have had 2 more trap trips. No more mole hills for the last month.

The only effective way to control moles is to trap them. Two years ago I got 29 off of my 1 acre. Last year I got over 50. This year I have only killed 9. None in the last several weeks due to dry weather.

Yes he did an expanding grid that resulted in crossing paths at @ 15" intervals. And yes he started in one corner, working out. He says that it is 75% vibration and 25% tunnel collapse. We actually saw two surface and try to run. The dogs made short work of them. Neighbor told me he does this on a 6 to 8 week interval, through out the dry season, which isn't all that long here in western Washington.
