No more Turfs

After numerious plugs in the front turfs (I switched the rears to ag last year) I decided to make the switch. Found some rims, 1 new, one used, and some 500x15 tires off ebay. I must say looking down at that skinny 3 rib tire is going to take some getting use to but I really enjoy how much easier it is to turn now. Now I don't miss power steering as much. I feel less kick back when I hit something. They are also just an inch or so taller now.

I've still got the old tires and rims that I may use in the mowing season for grins or if I get a flat.

Glad your happy with your new setup tire wise

I would think the only drawback is that you wont get quite the flotation as you did with the wider tires ! But in Texas maybe thats not so important

I couldn't keep air in my turfs either - I solved the problem with "slime" tire sealant. A can in each tire seems to have done the trick (no more flats).

These days you are correct...the only water around (even though I think we got some water yesterday)... is runoff from my wifes flower bed sprinkler system!!

Rob, nice job on finding tires and wheels. What kind of finishing mower is that and why the big box thing where pto hooks into it? Never seen one like that. How about a closer pic?

The mower is a 1999 Woods RM360. Before they all used the gear boxes. As you can see just a big pulley that the very long belt loops around.

She was about 2 days old to me then, all turfs.

Rob, Nice looking place you have there.

When I bought my tractor 14 years ago I was told that turfs like were on mine were the best thing for mesquite country, which I'm in. I literally have mowed down tens of thousands of mesquite over the years with my tractor and I fixed my first rear flat this weekend. The fronts however I just keep filled with slime. Not only that, turfs don't leave much of an imprint those 2X a year it rains.

I've even used my turf tread tractor to pull a 5' disc for food plots. I like my turfs, but I have to admit mine have a more hard rubber look than yours do. I'd keep those turfs too. MP

The turfs are in the garage up there. I'll keep them for now. I've already used them for a backup one day when the ags got a flat. The fronts were REALLY dry rotted, the rears are in much better shape...same age and only 1999.
