On this model one pump controls all hydraulics but while the bucket still works fine the steering has all but failed to work. When the steering wheel is turned the wheels do not respond. Where do I start to troubleshoot?

Don't know the DF Jim, other than many of them have a common sump for both hydraulics and tranny/differential. Or does yours have an engine or PTO driven hydraulic pump? In either case, there should be a device that splits hydraulic fluid off for the steering. It has different names; priority valve, divertor valve, splitter valve, etc.

Anyway. At the bottom of the steering column should be the steering controller. Hoses or hydraulic lines go in and out. Follow them until you find a device that looks like it might be where fluid to the steering is split off from the main hydraulic lines. Good chance that valve needs disassembly and cleaning.

I would also use the FEL to lift the front wheels off the ground and try to steer. It it now steers its you cylinder seals bypassing and will need rebuilt or replaced. If it does not steer I would lean toward the valve Greg spoke of.

While the tractors we are getting from DF now have a separate steering pump, some do/did have the single pump. If so there is a priorty valve responsible to make sure there is enough pressure to keep the steering working regardless of other hydraulic demands on the system. We have these in stock if you decide that is what is wrong. With the tractor off, will the steering wheel affect the front wheels? If not, take one of the lines off, with the engine off, turning the steering wheel in one direction or the other should pump oil out of the line. If not I would suggest the "steering motor", that is the valve that controls the flow of oil from the pump to the steering cylinder. have that too. let me know if we can help. we have a large number of DF parts in stock, mostly for our current models but we have been adding older parts as we see the need.

Until you have a solution you can just make sure that you are moving when your turning. If you fill your tires up and round the tube you will find turning easier. And you can add sea foam in case you have water or ice in the line.

You can drain your system and add diesel then run it for a few hourse. no loads. Then drain it this might clean out the system.

But mostly I would do what they are saying.
