My hydraulic system starting making a weird noise this afternoon. I installed a two spool Eaton valve last year to provide power for my new grapple. Today it started to make a noise. It was kind of like running water or air in the line. It also seemed to get abnormally hot. The grapple was not connected at the time. I was just motoring out with a load in my bucket. When ever I used any of the other attachments, suck as raise or lower the bucket or hoe, the noise stopped while the device was in motion.
It almost sounds like something is in line and the fluid is forcing by it. Is this a likely or possible cause? Is the valve malfunctioning? I have not tried attaching the grapple since the noise started.
I disconnected it and it stopped.
Any ideas?

Sounds like your pump is running in 'pressure relief' mode. Its stalled and the by-pass valve has opened. I'd assume the grapple valve is plumbed in the wrong part of the circuit.

That's what I was guessing as I read your symptoms. When you installed the new valve you didn't by chance use Teflon tape for the connections did you? (It's a big NO-NO in hydraulic systems)

I would definitely take the hoses off the valve and see if any debris is in one of the ports.

I have been using the grapple off and on for close to a year. It was not attached or in use at the time.

No teflon.
I did my homework and gots lots of good advice - Much from you!
Can I just blow some air through the valve and see if that clears anything out?
Will it hurt anything to blow air into it?

Air would be a great idea once you get the hoses off, and try to blow in the opposite direction of the hydraulic oil flow. It will be messy so be ready! Please let us know the outcome...

So that would be blowing in to the PB and Return port? Correct?

You got it Dan! Be sure to hold a rag over the inlet so you can hopefully catch whatever is causing you grief.

Guess it could also be a suction leak, and cavitation and foamed oil. I'd also check all my QD's if i had any..

Ok Soundguy. what is cavitation? What should I look for in the QD?
One of the QDs for the remote does have a slight leak. It would seem to me that if it was a QD it would make noise when that circuit was in use, not when nothing in use. But I am pretty new to this stuff.
