Noisy clatter >1800rpm on 3520h

I've got a new 3520h, and I'm absolutely loving it.

One concern - the engine sounds like a popcorn/poprocks machine starting around 1800rpm and on up.
Like, it sounds like someone's got a can full of gravel and is shaking it... not sure how else to describe it.
Sounds a lot different than my 7.3psd truck, that's for certain; there's no popping/rattling noise at idle or lower revs, only once you rev on up (either via the throttle or just the go pedal).

Is this normal?

Mine does that around 1600 rpm or so under light loads but not at or near idle or past 2000. I try to run it between 2000-2500 but when I'm moving it around in the barn I get tired of the engine revving. We have different engines (mine's a four cylinder) but their design is very similar. My Kubota also clattered off idle but smoothed out at pto speed.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Mine does/did the same thing. When I first got it home and starting using it I was sure something was amiss so I called the dealer I bought the tractor from and was told that's a "normal" sound for these engines and that he has received several calls from new owners with that same question. I have right at 100hrs on it now and it's either gotten better (breaking in?) or I just don't notice it anymore. 1600 to 2000 RPMS is where I generally run mine now that I've done a "soot cooker" removal with an occasional "run up" just to "clean things out", or if working hard. Just like I do my diesel PU.

Normal gets better with time. Thanks to our EPA they have leaned out these tractors so much that there is some injector clatter but seem to get better with time. Nothing to be of concern.
