My lk3054xs has less than 40hrs, and 4th gear is really noisy. It sounds like the gears are loose. The noise is louder when it is in neutral and in low range. The pto is also rattly when not engaged. My dealer hasn't seen this problem before. Has anybody else.

Thanks,

Thats just like mine. I believe its a 3054 thing.. I have 124 hours. Kind of a ringing rattle noise at the PTO shaft. I've noticed 1 of two things. Either it has slightly become more quiet with time, or I've gotten used to it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

thx Jim

I don't have the XS model - I get a fair amount of gear whine in 4th, but I have not noticed a lot of rattling, at least not so much that it would concern me. You say that it happens in 4th/neutral - I assume you mean in 4th with the shuttle in neutral? It's kind of unloaded then, so you would expect some more rattling of th gears then, I'd think? It's always hard to judge these noise issues over the internet! Hopefully, there won't be anything wrong with it, but keep us posted. Good luck!

I spoke with a Kioti engineer today about your problems. He stated that the PTO noise is not something to be concerned about, something to do with the way it's made and the cover magnifying the sound. As for the 4th gear thing, he wasn't sure what to say as neither of us can hear the sound to determine what where when and how. Is there any obvious problem using the tractor in 4th gear? Assuming of course that in that gear you start off slowly on the fuel and accelerate from there. Wish I could hear the sounds. John

Sounds like a typical 3054. Scared me the first time I heard it.
It's fine. If it will ease your mind go back to your dealers and drive one he has there.

I hadn't noticed any really outrageous noises on the 3054XS. Not nearly as quiet as my CK20, but nothing alarming. That's why I was asking if there is any operational problem, because it sounded maybe that it was just a 3054XS sound. John

Thank you all for the info. I'm glad to here I'm not alone. The noise in 4th gear seems to get louder as it gets warmer. It's like there is excessive gear lash in the main gear set. I wonder if a heaver lubricant would help?

Thanks,

I went out to my dealer's Friday and tried out the one 3054XS he has on the lot. Sounded just like I've heard it before. When in any gear, shuttle in neutral there is a 'sort of' rattly sound when the clutch is not depressed, but goes away when depressing the clutch. I heard it in low range, but it sounds fine, rather like a lot of other tractors when not engaged. I think it's a normal clutch sound that you're hearing, but it may be more pronounced than I'm experiencing. Too hard to tell if what I'm hearing is equal to your sound.
As I've always said, when it won't go, fix it. John

Heres a link back to when I had asked a simular question a while back.

I had changed the hydraulic/transmission oil. It made it seem only slightly quieter. Here in the Omaha area I would not want to try heavier hyd/trans oil because of winter. And its not easy to change like the engine. Theres several drain plugs and there is alot of fluid.

thx
Jim
