Hi Everyone, quick question.

I bought this bh760 3-point backhoe used: https://www.northerntool.com/produc...yk14yNFAbpEHAsYwxD655r8nJVfyUT-EB1qCVpX45UKTS

It didn't come with the 3 point pins. I've tried 3/4 and 7/8 pins to mount it, but the 3/4 is too sloppy and the 7/8 is a little too big for the hole on the backhoe side.

Has anyone else run across this problem? Is there a common pin size in between 3/4 and 7/8? I looked at tractor supply and they didn't have one.

Not sure but I'd be very careful using a 3 point backhoe with no subframe. Really good way to break your transmission casting if you get it in a bind.
Its for this reason i went way undersized with the backhoe. It is rated for down to a 25hp tractor, and I have it on my 50hp. My tractor also has a steel housing vs the newer aluminum ones. Backhoe hardly even moves the tractor while I'm using it.

I had a Woods 3 point backhoe 30 years ago before I realized the damage I could do to my tractor. more than that, a broken part could kill you.

To lessen that, my Woods backhoe came with specially hardened bolts for specific points. You had to use their pins. And I did. Maybe that's what you have?

Do you have a set of calipers around? So you can measure the holes. If not, you could get a set of cheap ones to have around. It's a nice tool to have.

Wondering if it is 22 mm, would be close to 7/8" but if the hole is machined close enough to 22 mm, the 7/8" wouldn't work.

That makes a lot of sense. I believe the manufacturer is ansung. I'll check with one of their dealers to see if that is the case.

The annoying thing is that because their pin size is slightly smaller than the 3 point arm hole, it makes everything feel really sloppy.

Is 22mm a common link pin size somewhere?

Get the fit correct and verify by finding an owner's manual on-line. Woods was good about that. I wouldn't take a verbal answer from a parts guy unless Ii verified myself.

For Woods, the pins that went into the parts that held the 3pt to the backhoe were critical for safety. If the pin broke the unit could snap back and crush your head against the ROPS. Not cool.

It's not the movement of the tractor when using a 3 point backhoe, it's the side forces applied by the unit that breaks the transmission casting and I've never had an aluminum transmission casting on any tractors I own, all cast steel.

That force is applied to the top link mount more than anywhere else and that is what fails and usually takes the transmission case with it.

I know a person who did just that with a 50 horse Kubota and when he got done, the repair bill exceeded 10 grand. needless to say he sold the 3 point hoe and bought one that had a subframe mount.

3 point hitches are designed for straight line pulling, not side forces.

Good luck with it. Not in my wheelhouse anyway. If I need a trench dug, I call Black Swamp and have them deliver an excavator or call the guy down the road, He has a big Kobleco and charges little to dig.
