I use the tractor on hills quite a bit, so it moves around at all angles (all those that work w/o tipping over...) is the oil on the top of the case normal? No leaks under the tractor. Maybe the tops of the cases are not sealed as well as the sides? Is this normal or should I reseal these places?

I would wash the dust off and keep on using it. You may try to check the bolts to see if they are snugged down.

probably wouldn't hurt to add a lil sealer to each bolt on the top if they are leaking past the threads.. might be rough castings with 'generous' thread space..

check that shifter boot to see that it seats well too.

most trans sling oil all around a case.. after a good day working not uncommon to see oil migration past loose bolts or bad boots... if you are on side hills and angles alot.. then it's even more normal I'd say..

Heck, there is just enough getting out to keep things from rusting!:D

Probably more trouble than it's worth to get everything seal to leak proof status.:D

Now that is funny but true!!

I would not consider that a "leak". Check bolts, go on with life!!

Thanks for the replies. I tightened the bolts a bit, but they did feel ok. Nothing obviously loose. Will see what happens. Just wondering if others experienced this sort of thing also.

Oh yeah, we could get into a real serious discussion of what constitutes a leak, weep, seep, wicking, etc, but its not worth the effort. It does seem that a lot of equipment develops a dust attracting film of something. ;)

Hard to see where its coming out from but ive had great luck with this
Seal-All Contact Adhesive 1208

from wal mart like under 2 bucks a tube
maybe a layer of this around the casting mating surfaces will help.
