This little tab pops up every minute that says "rules automatically created for."What is it and how do i stop it.Also my wife likes to play cards on YAHOO with the girls, but sometimes she cant get on.It says you have to shutoff pop up blockers ..she does and she still cant get on.Other times no problem. If she shuts off norton she can get on and then turn it back on.I dont like the idea of that. She tryed to contact NORTON,they were gonna charge her 40 bucks to talk mto a person.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?We just renewed it last fall, hate to start over with different security.THANKS

Do yourself a huge favor and go to start, control panel, add or remove programs, and delete it. Norton sucks! It takes up too much of the processor's drive to run it's registry and half the time won't even find what's "bugging" you anyhow.

Get AVG or another...even Mcaffee is better than Norton, it'll find the problem, but while running in the background, it can really slow your computer down.

Better yet go to zonealarm.com and download the free version. Best firewall around and also free. For a small price you can upgrade to the paid version and get more control but for most people the free version will protect your computer from attacks and is easy to set up. Their Suite costs more but also has anti-spam and anti-virus protect which you should have on your computer. Now having those three protections is like driving a tractor at full throttle with the brakes out of commission. At some point you will crash big time.

I banished Norton firewall from my system after it can for free on my laptop. Their System Works" program (Windows Doctor) is great to keep Windows running great by keeping the registry clean, but the firewall leaves a lot to be desired.

Trust me. I may not know too much about tractors but I have been programming and building computers since 1971.

Get Zonealarm.......

I bought Norton Internet Security and did not like it as it missed a lot of threats that AVG free or Ad-Aware free would pick up. I switched to AVG Internet Security and am very pleased with it. I chose to bite the bullet and I am glad I did. I have Windows Live OneCare on my laptop and I like it even better than AVGIS but you have to have a 100% Microsoft pure system to use it.

Norton was such a hog it isn't funny. Computer runs 500% better without it.

Be careful when you upgrade to VISTA, anitvirus programs are a MAJOR PAIN!!

Another vote for AVG and Zone Alarm. I work on two PCs that are networked, and the change when I dumped Norton was simply dramatic.

I will be dragged to VISTA the same was I was finally dragged to XP about two years ago....kicking and screaming. I was pretty darn happy with my software ten years ago. I was REALLY happy with windows and office 2000 Pro. But no, can't leave well enough alone, or simply fix the bugs it does have.

If you're using XP I'd just use the built in firewall and not even bother with Zone Alarm. Actually, I wouldn't use a software firewall at all and just use a router which acts as a hardware firewall. Then all you need is an antivirus and antispyware program- if you don't want to think much about it then the Windows OneCare is easy to use. Otherwise Nod32 or AVG with Windows Defender would be a good combination. I agree- Norton and Mcafee are way too bloated and eat us resources- be careful- Norton can be difficult to uninstall but there is an uninstall program on the Norton website to help out.

Zone alarm and AVAST! are both free and superb.

Avast! found virus that Norton had missed.

I do computers professionally. They are the best in my opinion.

Just as a note as others have brought up, both Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search and destroy are excellent programs for free that take care of viruses and spyware. Just update the data files (the virus and spyware signatures) at least once a week.

Spybot is at http://www.spybot.info/
