What kind of FEL are on Nortracs. They used to be Great Bend, but what model? Are they still Great Bend and are they any good compared to the ZL-20 or Koyker?

Mine came equipped with a FEL made by AmerEquip. They have a website and appear to be an OEM equipment manufacturer. The quaility is good and well attached with undercarriage support back to the rear axle. I don't know how they compare with others, but the unit is well designed to the size of the tractor. My occupation is a machine fixture designer and I'm an old tool and die maker, so I can spot junk when I see it. Maybe some of the other folks here will pitch in and give you their opinions. Koyker seems to be very popular on this board.

Do you own a Nortrac tractor? Can you give me a quick overview of your impressions of quality and supportability for parts.

I've been looking at all the brands and noticed a Nortrac on ebay this morning that I hadn't seen before. I like Norhern Tool and Equipment I just don't know anything about their tractors.

Thanks,
Sticks

I believe that Northern went to the new FEL a little over a year ago. At least, that is when I saw them at their MN facility. Prior to that, they did use Great Bend. The new version has a larger capacity bucket that is more comparable to Koyker 160s.

Well Sticks, I'm quite pleased with my Nortrac 204C. The C means it has the Y380T engine. I quess they used to sell the 204 originally with a two cylinder engine. I haven't had anything go wrong with it other than the glow plugs were faulty and Northern quickly sent me new ones, one of which was also bad and they quickly sent me a 4th one.

The quality is as good as can be expected. They don't repaint them, but do touch them up a little. All the fluids were changed, the hoses and battery were also replaced with new ones. It had a couple of loose electrical connections, like the hot wire on the horn fell off and one of the wires on the back of the fuse box came off. This happened after a few hours of use. So, not Northern's fault. Anhhow, after finding those I went over it and didn't discover anything else. I have retightned the timing cover bolts. I'd give them a 9.5 on a scale of 10 for their customer service and tractor delivery.

I didn't buy one locally because there are no dealers close to me. However I did find a Northern Tool outlet about 40 miles from here and didn't even know it was there until recently. Nice store and a good place to google at everything I'd like to have someday. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It's not an outlet store, but a regular retail store.

The Outlet store is located in Hudson, WI.

Glad you stop by from time to time!!!
