I got a 59" nortrac tiller delivered yesterday. Put it together today there was no manual and box was open (lost?) I think I got the tines on right but have no Idea what oil to put in gear box. Customer service is closed till tuesday. Here is a link to the tiller.

Does any one have one of these. I guess I will have to wait till tuesday.

I can't imagine you could go wrong with 90w gear oil.

camanche, I would recommend 80W90 [non- foaming].

Also, if it has any of the Chinese lube in the gear box???... I would flush is out and then re-fill.

Still get your manual for future reference.

On my Howard HR20 Rotavator, recommended is gear oil SAE 140 - 160. Either in geabox as in chain box drive.
When I bought it, I replaced oil with new SAE140, as I couldn't find heavier oil.

Thanks for the repiles I think I will flush and use the 85-90 till I get a manual seeing as I have some of that in my shop. Probably good to flush after the first 20 hrs of use any way.

Thanks again for prompt repiles. I hope this Chinese tiller likes rocks? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It will be fine with 85-90, especially as you have it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Just be careful that oil was unpacked, and don't have moisture in.

About flushing gearboxes, I run them a little, drain old oil out, fill with diesel fuel, run (free of load) and drain again. That procedure I'm doing two times.
Finally, drain out to last drop, set the drain plugs and fill with new oil.

That's my usual procedure on all new purchased used machines, and way how I did that on my fresh bought tiller (20y old).
