A friend sent me info on a huge rock being moved these days in California. There are a bunch of Youtube videos on it, but below are 2 that I found pretty amazing.

Here's the synopsis:
Rig is over 300 ft long with more than 200 wheels. Because of all the pivot points (remotely controlled) they can turn a 90 degree corner as long as it's at least 4 lanes wide. They started with 1 truck pulling (600hp) and 2 pushing (450hp) after loosing 2 trucks they now have 2 pulling (800hp & 600hp) and 3 pushing (450hp each). The 800hp Kenworth has 6 ft high wheels. The wheels on the 600hp Pacific are only 4ft high. They made 14
miles last night. The schedule was to be at the LA County Museum of Art on the 10th. I don't think they will make it as they have only moved 42 miles in 5 days. Total trip is 106.

Use these terms for your search: youtube lacma big rock

This first one is pretty slow for the first minute & 1/2. But what I love is the sign at the end that says 3 tons. This shows how they started as mentioned above.

The haul cost I heard on this job was so high that I blocked it out of my memory. Just seems like all that money could have been used more wisely.
I think and hope it was all private funds...

A very impressive move, none the less.

In our area, there is a program on the History Channel called "Modern Marvels". I have seen a few episodes on that show, relating to Companies that move buildings, homes, reactors, and even a complete airport terminal; etc. The capacity of the hydraulic jacks that are utilized in the moving process are truly amazing.

Very impressive. It would make a good paper weight.
Must of cost a few dollars to get it moved.

Moving costs were over a million dollars and all privately funded.

Think I would have blasted in two and then super glued it back together on site.

They ought to take all the crooked politicians and harness them to that trailer and a few pushing and make it really worth it.

The only question that comes to mind is... why? No wonder California is broke.

It seems like a huge waste of money to move a rock just so it can be placed in a museum. If they want a rock, fine... ever hear of fiberglass and paint?

You gotta love the street sign you see clearly at the very end of the first video above.

Big Boulder - $100,000
Moving Big Boulder - $1,000,000
Fixing "3 ton limit" streets the following summer with taxpayer money - Priceless
