I have some areas along the side of my (private) road as well as my tree line I would like to keep trimmed down. I have been looking at various "ditch bank mowers" and sickle bar mowers, but none of them take care of all of my needs. If this is worth anything it would be ideal solution to everything I need.

It looks to have a PTO driven hydraulic system so I would not need additional hydraulics from the tractor.

I seems to have a cable system to provide operator input ....

Probably not the heaviest built unit, but with a little care, looks to be sufficient for my needs.

Any thoughts

Never seen one, but that’s pretty cool!

The county uses larger versions of that to clear along roadsides in my mountain area. They use cab tractors in the 100+ hp range and the attachment is bolted on. There'a also a large tank on the left side. I don't know if it's an oil tank (that'd be a lot of oil!) or water for ballast.

It looks handy for mowing uneven areas. The county ones can put a pretty good gouge in trees and they do that often. I don't know if that is hard to avoid or the operators are just careless about tree damage.

If you're trimming trees with it you may want to make a shield of some sort for the operator.

The only question is do you need a full boom style? You can get a ditch mower that is wider for way less than half the price of that boom mower. Not knowing all of your applications makes it hard to tell which would be better. A ditch mower works to the side of the tractor too so unless you really need the reach of the boom then a ditch would be a better way to go. The flail head also rotates vertical to 90 degrees on a ditch mower.

I have a ditch mower with brand name Mateng. Same as the one linked in the last post. Does have limited reach, but works great on steep ditches. Also does the vertical trimming and tucks right behind the tractor for regular mowing duty. Swinging it to vertical really makes cleaning/unplugging a breeze. I needed to add a solenoid to have two functions on the rear remote.

Just make sure you have enough hydraulic gpm at your rear remote to operate it before you buy. Also is your valve suitable for motor operation?

Ron

These units run of a PTO pump. Two pumps actually. One just for the mower motor and a smaller one for the arm.

Mainly I am looking to maintain the sides of my 1.5 mile private road. Keeping the brush cleared back makes ditch and road maintenance easier.

I have been PM'ing Jack Yuan about the ditch mowers and was on the verge of buying one of the Nova models but, A boom mount would be significantly better for my purposes.

And the fact that this uses it's own self contained hydraulics and just get's power from the PTO seems like a big plus.
