Not Exactly Plowing, BUT . . .

A few members have recently mentioned buying a set of plows for their tractor. Alas, I do not have a set. My needs are fairly limited, thus they aren't worth the expense. So one makes do with what they have. As you can see I have a scraper blade that angles in 2-D. Angle to the extreme both ways and drive on. Works ok, no it's not really plowing and to call it such would be sacrilegious to many a farmer. But the ground is 'turned over', and loosened up. I'll push it back smooth with the blade. Wish I had a 3ph rotatiller, the freebie craftsman front tine my dad gave me was a piece of crap when he was using it, but it almost works ok. And a backhoe for those stumps.

BTW he's Leo.

Not a bad idea! I noticed that when they plow snow with a grader around campus, sometimes they misjudge where the edge of a drive is and do a darn good job of plowing up the lawn alongside! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif That made me wonder if a blade could do some plowing, and I guess I have my answer!

Leo is a Chow Shepherd cross. He has the purple tongue, chow muzzle and coat, totally shepherd body though. He used to be called Star by the people he used to own, but they pretty much abandoned him and he claimed me. A male dog named Star??? So I decided he was a Leo instead. Any guesses why? His personality is amazing for his ancestry. Far and away the mildest mannered dog I have ever known. Unless you are small and furry and more or less fit in the ground hog family which includes rabbits and squirrels. It's incredible to see him run down a rabbit. His lovable personality is pretty much lost on them.

He has used the picnic table far more than I.

I have never found rock one in the soil. This area used to be wooded so the top soil is pretty good. Unfortunately it is only 5" deep. All clay after that. I wouldn't want a real set of plows. The topsoil would all wind up on the bottom./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Sorry, not really. Knew a farmer back home selling topsoil out of his fields. Seemed to me like going to a blood bank and selling off a quart or 2.

Thanks. He had that look that says he's a good dog. Same look my dogs used to have. Part of the family.

Isn't soil type something? In my last two houses, there has always been a foot or two of black dirt on top of nothing but sand.

My other property is all sand, very fine, no organic material, except for one 4 acre section that is all black muck. Wet most of the year.
