Hurry Hurry Hurry, Step Right Up ...

Another regional price extravaganza in the NE.

I've was out pricing tractors today. I stumbled across an AGCO dealer about 45 minutes away.

For the unindoctrinated, AGCO is now the conglomerate of the former Allis Chalmers AND White AND Minn. Moline AND Oliver etc. Company was formed in the early 90's I believe.

Anyway ... this Dealer, a nice guy actually, had about 10 machines out in the yard. I gravitated to the ST30. This is a 30 hp 4WD 3 cyl Iseki powered with an HST tranny - and a L46 loader.

Observations: Impressive operator platform, very roomy. Fit and Finish - well, it twasn't a Kubota but it was steel skinned. The loader was a little on the slow side and for some reason it wouldn't lift the tractor's front off the ground. BTW, this loader's capcity was listed at 970lbs. I find that a lil on the light side.

Any way, the price, with loader, out the door was apprx. 19,800.00

14,800 for the tractor
3,600 for the loader
284 for prep.
(tax would be around 1300)

Ummmm ... H E L L O ... I'm thinkin this is nonsense. No? I don't see a lot of input on these machines here in TBN ... but hey, I can get a B7800 with LA402 from Carver for about 4,500 less - delivered.

This was a small operation, selling a lotta Simplicty lawn tractors but had a full line of CUTs there too.

I'm frustrated. I wanna support local commerce, but apparently I have to be a booger-eatin moron in order to pull it off.

Unless of course the TBN gray matter says that is a good price.

Did you mean ST30?

Wow that price is high. Here is the price I got last November. This was for the ST35X which is larger with shuttle gear trans instead of HST.

Here are the prices I have been quoted so far. 4WD and equipped with loader and R4 tires. 2.5% tax added.

AGCO ST35X $14,247.50

Went to the JD dealer I bought my LT from 6 years ago
and asked for a price on a JD4110 with FEL & BH and a few
odds and ends. I'd already been to the Deere web site
and got the full list prices etc. I knew what to expect.

List for what I wanted was 25,378(after tax)
Thier version of list for the same stuff was 26,568

So after saying they were giving a good discount, Their price
came out to 23,185 which is actually less than 9% off the list.

I say, fine if that's what you want to charge, but why inflate
the list prices to make it look like a better deal?

Well, it turns out they added in delivery and set up costs.
I've only got one other quote, but they didn't have any
charges like that. I asked them specifically.

Pretty strange.
It pays to shop around. I guess a lot of people don't bother.

Cliff..... same thing here, wanted to buy local, but all the yuppies buy around here and the prices are inflated, and firm. Higher then retail. So I went inland to farm country. Saved $5000. on the trade and the new machine was $5000. less. Call me a booger, 10k is 10k. Another plus is the sales people and everyone there know tractors, they don't just sell em out of a book. Ask a question and they know the answer.

seems like a lot of $$$$ for a tractor that won't lift the front end off the ground

I can't help but wonder if he tried to roll the bucket to lift the front wheels or not. On some loaders they will hardly lift the front wheels off the ground simply because of their design and it is not from a lack of hydraulic power. The AGCO's are very robust tractors, almost identical to Massey's and Caterpillars CUTs and all three are built by Iseki.

OH ... and I forgot the most titillating point. Just as I was leaving, the dealer said "by the way, this quote has a short shelf life. Steel prices in June are going up and so is this machine".

Jerry, good catch. I wasn't thinking too clearly when I made this post. It was in-fact AGCO's ST line and I was on the ST30 hydro with loader.

Brent ... the machine had a load leveler rod. I made sure it was level for each of the 6 times I tried to lift her.

Fellas, I was not at the float detent.

Does one normally roll the bucket to lift the front end? I didn't.
