Hello Everyone, I have a Husky 340 chainsaw. The chain is not oiling. When it is left in the case for a while, the bottom of the case is covered with oil. What do I need to do to get it oiling again? Thanks for the help! Ricky

It sounds like the Oiling port coming out of the saw or the Oil hole in the Bar is clogged with fine sawdust that has mixed with oil to make a thick paste. Not allowing it to oil when running, but when sitting in a Hot Case , it slowly drips through the clog and leaves a puddle.

Check your manual and see where the oil is dispensed from , remove the bar/chain, and give it a good cleaning with an old toothbrush, and maybe even blast it clean with some Carb or Brake cleaner.

Before starting a day of cutting I will remove Bar/Chain and give it a good cleaning. Then while using the saw I usually run 4-5 tanks of Oil/Fuel , remove bar and chain , give it a good cleaning , then back up and running never had a non oiling issue. I am using my grandfathers STIHL , which I think was bought in '86 , and just put the 3rd bar on it last year. The cleaning routine was instilled in me by my Grandfather , and I guess that is what has kept from going through many bars. And this saw has cut A LOT of wood.

I'd try to find a parts drawing to see how the oil tank is plumbed to the oil pump. Sounds like a broken/loose tube in that plumbing.

I have same problems with Solo, but in my case it is stripped actuator. I replaced it few times and gave up on it. Clean all the oil holes and if nothing comes out, it cloud be the oil pump.

Hey Prokop,

I had that problem with a Solo 640. What happens is that the oil pump drive shaft with the worm gear gets very hot from proximity with the clutch housing when the saw has been run hard and is then shut off so that the pump shaft is stationary near the clutch drum. The shaft then warps ever so slightly so that the gear mesh between the drive gear on the crankshaft and the worm is too large, and the gears jam or strip.

I called and talked to Solo USA tech support. They were AWESOME in explaining the situation to me, and they shipped me a complete replacement oil pump assembly including a re-designed driveshaft, no charge. It's not a joy to install (have to remove clutch), but I've had no subsequent problems.

Thanks, Jay

I agree with you on the Solo experience. They have one of the best support for customers I ever dealt with. My saw was in their shop twice, they fixed it both times, but it never lasted. I had taken the clutch of few times too and the gear was always stripped, replaced the warm gear myself few times too.

Finally I gave up on it, I run the saw with bit looser chain and check it often and thats that. There is still some oil going in, but very small amount. For what I use it for now,it is good enough and one day I am just gonna get profi grade Husqvarna

I have an old homelite, and when the oiler gets slow on it, I just add a little of the fuel to the oil, thins it out, seems to work ok. Maybe do this every 2nd or third time you add chain oil and see if it helps.
