just spent the morning bleeding the fuel system on my YM147D and finally got tractor started and running cleanly. Let her run for about 15 minutes before moving her after about another 10 minutes running she started blowing black smoke ran roughly and died. Now she won't start again. Any thoughts? Back to bleeding?

Probably a stupid question but is the air filter good and clean?

black smoke is more fuel than air.. start with air intake / filter.

if that ain't it.. gulp, then look at injectors and pump..

Not likely either, but if yours has a kill cable, make sure it is not partially pulled. I did that on my 2002d one time. It would crank with lots of smoke, finally saw the kill cable pulled just a little, pushed it all the way in and she run like a top. Most people don't do things like that but I do.

Why did you bleed the fuel system to begin with. I assumed you changed the fuel filter, but your question about a dirty filter makes me think that was not the reason. Just curious, were you fooling with anything? Injector pump, injectors?

Novice mistake, I ran her out of fuel. Have not changed fuel filter yet. That's next I guess. Finding my way around, though pretty sure I did the bleeding right. I'm off for a couple of days so won't get to her until later in the week.

Thanks for the suggestions.

OH OK didnt think of that. I always try to fuel up with at least half a gallon or a gallon to prevent this. I almost did it 2 weeks ago, was low and didnt go to town for more yet and was trying to push till lunch. I looked and had about 1/4 of an inch on the bottom of the tank!!! Stopped the tractor in the field and went it, they can suck air even when low when on uneven ground.

If this is all it was your fine, you just need to get it right now. ITs not like you messed with something. Bleed it again. Also some never do it but you see others do it and say it is necessary. But once you use the bleed screws starting from tank side to injector side. There is 2 on the filter and i think one at the pump. If that still dosent work you can crack each injector line and crank then close the line, but be careful that oil is at highpressure when it sprays out and is said to be able to inject itself into your skin if it hits you. Do both lines and then close them off after cranking, then see what you have .

if a gear trans.. you can also try pull starting a diesel that is not liking bleeding and electric starting.

saves the starter too!
