farmtrac 35
I have a farmtrac 35. Works great. When I bought it, it had/has a tow bar sticking out the bottom. It's a long bar running from under the universal straight out the back. If I couldn't pull it to the side it would get in the way of the 3 point implements.
It appears to be fixed to the bottom of the tractor with a screw (about an inch wide) which sticks straight up into the universal housing.
My question is - (since there is no thread or purchace for tools on the screw) - how do I get the stupid tow bar off?
Thanks

Is the 'screw' more of a pin, or 7/8 inch or so metal rod?

Some tractors you push it up a bit & turn it 1/4 turn, it falls out then has little ears on it.

Most have a keeper on top, like a hitch pin keeper, look up in there on top of it, just a little crack of room & they will sneak the keeper in there.

I'm not familiar with your tractor, so basing my reply on other models of tractors...

I'll get under it and look again, but it appears to have threads. 7/8ths inch? hmmmmm...yea could be.
Thanks for the thoughts - I don't think there is any room at all for a keeper, but what do I know.
I'll poke around a bit more and let you know.

Maybe you could take a photo while under there. It would help.

Ok, I looked closely and there is a pin, but it won't budge - I've attached a picture.

Is that a huge cotter pin?

Hose it down with WD40 or your favorite penetrate. A pair of pliers on the closed end can be made to rotate the pin a bit to break the rust.

Straighten the two spread arms like you would any cotter pin and tap it out with a straight punch and light hammer. Looks like a nail with the pointed end cut off would work as a punch.

I'm not sure what you were talking about, the large (over an inch) round pin sticking down is both the piviot for the draw bar and it holds it in place. I've been told that I should push up on it and it should disengage and allow the draw bar to be pulled out.
I've pushed up on the pin (which looks kind of like a round button in this picture) and I can lift the tractor but it's not moving more than perhaps a 64th of an inch.

On my JD, they have a 'hair pin' on the upper end of that retainer pin.

Tough to see and tough to get at.

You positive it goes all the way into the tranny case ?

My Farmtrac 80 has the same style. Mine has a clip pin on the top side that fits in a machined groove in the large pin. When I pull the clip pin out the large pin drops out.

Look up on top of that drawbar bracket and see what's holding the large pin on the top side.

I think the Farmtrac's are modeled after the old Ford tractors. We have a Ford 4000 and it has a drawbar like this. If I recall correctly, it has a keeper on top of the pin. Hard to get to, but sometimes we need to extend or retract the bar for different situations. I would doubt that the pin would extends into the trans case.
