Been using a local farmer's 10' disc to till some food plots. The disc has smooth (non-notched) discs and it seems to have problems cutting through vegetation. Would a disk with notched discs work any better? I want to buy a King Kutter 6.5' disc and it has both smooth and notched discs. Thoughts?

I have a LandPride disc harrow with notched discs and it works just fine. One thing that helps is adding weight to the assembly, and adjusting the angle on the discs. I really like that the LandPride lets me do both pretty easily.

I've got a 6' 6" 3pt disc with notched discs front and back. It seems to cut through the vegetation. Definetly add wieght to the disc.
As far as the 10' that my neighbor owns, it's fairly heavy already. In fact, he used it to till his corn fields when his primary disc went down. The angle of the discs is set. The one field has pretty heavy vegetation so I did the best I could last night. Waiting for a little rain to soften things up.

I personally like notched better,even on the coulter wheel of a plow.I think I read somewhere years ago
(notched discs) in theory tend to grab soil and dig in a little deeper and cut better as already mentioned.That being said then theres also different quality disc when it comes to where there made(India,Brazil,USA,Canada).IMHO I would rather have a smooth USA disc than a notched foreign one unless it was made in Canada.
