Unless your using it! OK, so this newbie christened his machine with it's first "dings". You see, I was backing up, and was looking where I was going naturally, but my hand was still on the joystick. The bucket crept up and had some dirt in it which ended up on the hood. Nothing serious... 3 hailstone-like dings. Could have been much worse, and I learned a valuable lesson.

Thanks for the wisdom. From your experience and willingness to share it I know that I will keep it in my mind to keep my hand off of the joystick when not using the FEL.

I had a little trouble with hitting the joystick on my 1533 with my right knee when I've been turned enough to look over the back of the tractor and am operating the foot throttle with my right foot. I'm getting used to it now but it took a little bit because of the joystick being placed so close to my right knee. John

i just got the 1547 and boy can you dig a hole quick with the right knee loader operating method. i wish they put a lock on that thing... like you i'm getting used to keeping my leg off it...jon

I know what you mean. I wish there was some sort of lock on it too. I said I'm getting used to it but it takes some effort to keep your leg off of it. The other day I still managed to dig a nice hole with my pallet forks before I realized what was happening. John

wait till you are holding full up on the loader control while at full throttle and it 'tops out', sending a rain of dirt down upon YOU. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

and before you ask, I have never done that. And I won't ever do it again. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tiller-
That's pretty much how it happened. While turning my body to the right so I could see where I was backing up, I was putting a very small amount of action onto the joystick. Which brought the loader up very slowly until it topped out. Then down came the dirt that was in the bucket. Of course the bucket was tilted all the back at the time, which also didn't help.
As for you other guys with the knee thing.... the 1531 doesn't come with that factory mounted joy stick, mine is up on the FEL support. The setup you guys have looks real good and I was wishing mine could have been set up that way, now maybe not. I can see where it could get tricky. I never thought about that before, but good advice for the others out there that also have your set up!

You could have both. I have a joystick on the fender as it came from the factory for a loader and I also have a loader mounted joystick. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, both are on my MF 1440.

This is not a good across the board policy as there is an execption.
I keep my hand on the knob on uneven ground or a situition
where one might have to drop the loader quickly to prevent a roll over.
