This is a real basic question, but I don't have any prior experience with a grease gun. I am getting ready to lubricate my FEL on my new Kubota L3830HST after the first 10 hours of use. After you hook up the gun to the grease fittings how do you know when you have injected enough grease into the fitting? Thanks for the help. This web site has been invaluable to a new tractor owner like me.

pump the grease in until you see grease come out of the joint.

The only thing I'd add is that you should look all around the joint for grease movement. Sometimes it comes out is different areas and is not an ever flow outward. Also you may have to move the loader up and down or dump the bucket a bit to get the grease into tight joints. Don't force it too hard, just move the loader/bucket a bit and usually it'll free up some space for the grease.

Now loading you gun after you are empty...that's a whole 'nother post.

You can't put too much grease in. So let her have it. The only trouble is the pumped out grease and the mess it makes. I am an obsessive overgreaser.

My advice is to pump, look and listen. Like others said, look for grease coming out of the joints. Once you see it, stop. If you pump a few times and do not see it, look all around the joint because it may be coming out somewhere you do not see it. If you look all around the joint and do not see any, keep pumping and look all around the joint until you see the grease. You can also listen, because some times you will hear a small crack or pop as the grease comes out of the joint. I think you only hear the pop or crack when the joint has dirt around it, or it is fairly dry (needs grease because it either did not have or has used all of it).
I tend to grease fairly heavy and it only bites you when you have to take apart something you just greased. That is why they make soap and hand cleaners. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
