My 640 has come along, thanks to the helpful advice from this site. However, it ain't quite soup yet. The steering (hard turning left) finally locked up. I pulled the unit and took it apart. As you guys forecast, the upper bearing was kaput. I ordered new bearings and seals. It worked out fine once I figured out how to install the lower bearing keeper. Now the 640 turns like it should. While I was working on the steering, I decided to overhaul the starter (dragging) and carburetor (leaking) and both of those projects turned out fine. However, my hydraulics is still giving me problems. It looses it's prime when it sets for more than a day. I can prime it by taking the plug out and cranking it with the key turned off until there is no more air and then immediately install the plug. It will then work, although it does chatter when I raise it. I notice a small amount of oil seeping out around the plug on the pump. That tells me - if oil can get out then air can get in. Should I try wrapping the plug with teflon tape? Any thoughts on what I might do to correct this problem? Also, the hyd dip stick has markings on both sides with one side showing a full mark with a note about cylinders extended. The other side shows a very wide "full" zone - my fluid registers at the lower end of the dip stick with the lift down - what is the proper level of hyd fluid on the dip stick? Thanks. Russ
