Just added a new 3.5L Ecoboost F150 Lariat to my list of to(ys)ols. Now I just need a trailer. Looking at a Sure-Trac 14k implement trailer. Overkill for what I need it to do, but I think it is still within reason.

What weight distributing hitch are you looking at?

Congrats on the new truck. I didn't look up your specs so what is the 3.5L F150 rated to tow. Seems to me the weight of your 4035 on a 14K trailer is going to be pushing over 9000 Lbs. I just upgraded my Chevy 1500 with a 9600 lb rating to a 2500HD rated for 13K conventional towing.

I was actually calculating the tractor and trailer at about 10k combined.

GCWR on that truck is 16k, take off for the truck, it's got 11200 left for cargo and trailer. I'll be well within capacity...

As for what WDH I'll be using, of that I'm not sure. We have a really good trailer place I'm sourcing the trailer from and will likely go with whatever they recommend. Always interested to hear what others have to say and/or recommend. Any pointers?

IMG_1135.JPGIf you don't need nor will ever need the 14K trailer then you will be carrying the extra weight for nothing. A 12K trailer would be as much as any CUT hauler would ever need and that would save you gas and wear and tear on your truck not to mention the extra $$$ you would have in your pocket for the difference in price of the trailer.
I can haul my utility tractor (LS P7010) with FEL on my 12K and still be under the weight limit and towing limit. Tongue weight is the limiting factor that I have found and with a 20 foot trailer, it leaves enough length to balance out the load and keep the 960# max tongue weight within limits of the hitch. It may not be the full 10% of the tow weight but it handles very well.

Nice Combo. I have towed my 10,400# boat well over 30,000 miles of the 79,000 miles my 12 Ecoboost has. No issues at al. Truck is a beast for a half ton....

Over the long term, I'd rather have the overhead. The trailers I am looking at, the decks at 18' are all built the same. Their 10k has a pair of 5k axles and weighs 2750. Their 12k sets on a pair of 6k axles that are identical to their 7k axles, except they have a smaller bearing set. Basically their 12k is a derated 14k. The 12k weighs 2850, and their 14k weighs 2870. 20 extra pounds unloaded...

The capacity of the 12k ends up at 9150 and the 14k at 11130.

I won't be towing the tractor often. I'll most commonly move cars or long lumber, but I want the overhead to take the tractor and backhoe someplace if needed. My TLB combo weighs about 8k. I could do it with a 12k easily, but with a 14k only weighing 20 extra pounds and the prices being so close, the 14k is the best route I can take.
