Now I\'ve done it

Hi all,
Well talk about dumb, I was going over my Iseki 1910f yesterday getting it ready for winter and blew up the generator. I checked all the fluids greased the tractor and insalled a new larger battery. When I put in the new battery I never checked the terminals on the battery they were backwards on the new battery. Now the diode pack in the generator is cooked.Anyone have any ideas on where to find a rebuild kit for it ? The generator is made by Hitachi. The only good thing is the front bearing was totally shot so its days were numbered. Any help would be great. All I can say is be careful I made a real stupid mistake not paying attention. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Now I\'ve done it

If you go to a alt/starter rebuilder they generaly can retro-fit or do something to get one. They did a aircraft starter for me so maybe they can fix you up. don't fill bad happens to the best of us.

Re: Now I\'ve done it

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, Try an Alternator/ Starter rebuilder like the earlier post mentioned.
Another thought might be to replace the Alternator with a "automobile" unit, making up the mounting bracket and getting the right length of belt is the hardest part.
A couple of years ago, Delco batteries started having a "Polarity" problem. The Posts where reversed, during manufacture... MADE IN CHINA. After reading about some very EXPENSIVE parts that had to be replaced, like the various computers, radio, alternator,ABS controler, etc, I test every battery for correct polarity before hooking up the cables! Doesn't matter what brand, I still do it. Only found 1 so far, it was an EXIDE.
Look on the bright side, bet you will never forget.

Re: Now I\'ve done it

I'm guessing you have an alternator.. not a generator.. gennies don't use diode packs usually. Same advice though.. take it to your local re-builder.

The alternator on my YM1700 went out, and I replaced it with a similar sized unit .. a hitatchi I think... worked great...

Re: Now I\'ve done it

Thanks for the advice guys. I took the burned rectifier to a local auto electronics shop and he had a new exact match on the shelf for 16 dollars. Also replaced the bearings from a local bearing dealer also a whopping 10 dollars. Cleaned and reassembled the alternator today works like a charm. It does alot of good to check local places for parts as I have done front bushings, bearings and seals locally cheap and now alternator rebuild for about 26 dollars. I was quoted 150 dollars the other day for the rectifier alone by a well known dealer on this sight glad I checked the auto electronics shop. thanks again

Re: Now I\'ve done it

By rectifier, do you mean the voltage regulator (voltage limiter) or the bridge rectifier, or both? I was unable to get a voltage regulator anywhere but a Yanmar dealer for my Yanmar YM1110D. The rectifer, or diode pack, was on the back of the alternator.

You are very fortunate that you could find repair parts for your charging system locally at such good prices.

You haven't told us which model you have. It will help us in the future to know.

Re: Now I\'ve done it

Sorry I forgot to mention it was an Iseki 1910.According to the book I have the alt is the same for the 1610,1910 and 2902/4. The diode pack is apparently a pretty easy one to find. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
