Hi Guys
This is not my project, it is a friend of mine the guy who owns the falcons. He took down this pigeon loft from a neighbor had a brought it home. He gave the guy $100 and of course it is not until you get into everything that you find out you can use this and use that, but can use these materials.
But Mike more then got his moneys worth at least 6 times over.

Well of course everything is always more of a project then you think. But Mike is a pretty decent workman and carpenter in my opinion. Mike managed to save the framing of the walls and all the nest box stuff and perches and the floors. I do not have pictures of the building before he took it down which is too bad. He has done such a nice I thought I would do a post for him. Here is what has to this point.

I take my setter pup over to play with his blood hound they are the best buddies in the world. Jake the bloodhound must weight 150lbs if he weights and oz. He has played with Red my setter since he was 10 weeks old and never hurt him. So here are some pictures of the pigeon loft and maybe 1/2 will be a quail pen. Jake the blood hound does grow on you, but it takes a while.

The good looking white and black one is mine. When Jake(bloodhound) sees Red(setter) he starts to cry he is so happy to see him. Mike and I sit and watch them play(keep away with a rope and wrestle), they are a barrel of laughs.

Take a look a Mike's pigeon loft pretty nice work if you ask me, does anyone on the forum have a better one? IF you do post you picture! Lets see!

Thought you guys would enjoy the pics, as he starts to finish I will post more pictures.

That's a nice looking pigeon loft. I've got three pigeon lofts but I'm planning to down size to two lofts this year. Some people have some really amazing pigeon lofts, and some super expensive birds.

I love your setter dog! Brings back good memories! I used to raise them when we lived down south and hunted quail with them! One lemmon setter i had was the best squirrel dog I ever had! :)

Here are the updated pictures of mike pigeon loft. He has decided that it is too nice to use for just pgeons so he will give them a blocked off section and use the rest for tools. And I included a picture of Red my setter pup.

I think Mike has done a really nice job on his pigeon loft!

Yes, that is some loft, a beauty, and likewise for your setter. Is he used for hunting or a pet?

These two will be breed once Red is broke and I know he will make a good hunting dog.

Rubi (on right)
The dog on point is a dog I bought from Texas from Chuck Wilson
I have used her for two years on game preserve and she has pointed and retreived many birds. Rubi father is a walking trial field champion. Rubi has
absolutely great nose and will hunt all day. The picture is when I first got Rubi she was started and I finish braking her. She was about 10 month old
when I got her. Rubi is all Llewellin Setters her father is Tanner here is Chucks web page and a picture of her father.
Our Male Llewellin Setters - White Rock Kennels

Red (On left)
I bought Red from a fellow in NY who had a really nice Llewellin setter ***** and hunting dog. He bred her to a grouseridge field champion and that is where Red came from. Here is Red daddy picture. His name is Ch. Grouse Ridge Bruiser Grouse Ridge Kennels - The finest in breeding English Setters since 1950 - Oxford, NY
So I will break Red this summer and fall if he turns out to have a good nose
is a good bird dog I will bred him and Rubi. IT will not be hard to train Red
by the time next winter comes he will have pointed at least 200 hundred birds.

Not very often when you buy a hunting dog will the breeder will tell you we can hunt both parents, before you buy a puppy. The prof is in the showing. If they do not have a nose and drive I will not bother to bred them. So once Red is broke I will plan a breeding if he is good. I have high hopes for him.

Between Rubi and Red they should have some nice puppies in a year from now. Or at least that is my hope.

I am tracking Mike's pigeon loft as we can put birds out for Red to point over at his house and if Red brakes point the bird will fly back to the loft and Red will soon learn when he brakes point he does not get anything. If he does hold point will shoot a cap gun and throw a dead bird for him to retrieve as a reward for being good. But we just keep reusing the same birds from mike's loft and they fly right back in.
Once Red understands the game and is starting to come on we will shoot game over him. I have trained field trail retrievers for over 30 years and many gun dog have never ever had a gun shy dog or had one I could not make at least a decent hunting dog out of. I am sad to say thru ignorance many of the hunters that come here make their dogs gun shy in no time at all which such a shame. My heart always goes out to the poor dogs.

So yes Red will be trained and he is not just a pet. But he does stay in the house and has ever since I got him.
