Nuffield Universal 3 tractor - AMPMETER HOOK UP WITH DELCO ALTERNATOR

Wondering if someone more experienced than me to confirm that the wiring diagram to hook up a Ampmeter to my Nuffield Universal 3 tractor will be OK.
I don't have a generator now but a Delco one wire Alternator. I am currently wiring for some lights front and back and want to overhaul the wiring as it is a mess from the previous owner.
The wiring does have a crossover relay which can only help but don't know if it is needed.
I will be fusing wires 5,6,7 so it will be protected.
Please help.

I am very familiar with Nuffields having owned one for decades, a 465.

The first question I have regarding your post is what ground is your electrical system. (looking at the hand made wiring diagram again I see battery is shown with a - ground) It would have been + ground from the factory and to install the Delco alternator, the battery setup would have been changed to negative ground.

Are you trying to get the Nuffield ammeter to work or a another universal one?

Plse post some photos of your tractor, the battery and cables and the installed alternator. This will be a big help in helping you!

I don't understand your use of the term "crossover" relay. Looks like any old headlight relay.

Why do you want an ammeter when you could easily have a warning light?

More thoughts for your Nuffield.

I suggest you buy a fuse holder like this one with eye terminals on it rather than the slip on style.

The slip on or blade ones can have wires pull off and create confusion and problems when you least need them.

Presently you are using terminal 87 on the relay as a junction point for other circuits which is not the best way to do it.

Is this thread from 2016 about the same tractor?
There cannot be too many Universal 3's in Ontario Canada.

In this wiring diagram the meter for monitoring the charging system is a voltmeter not an ammeter.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying to get a new ammeter to work.
The previous owner installed the relay which I don't know if I need.
Attached is some photos of the alternator, and wiring which looks horrendous.
The wiring diagrapm that I did was taken from the service manual for the Nuffield Universal 3, and I used the old wiring diagram as a guide.
If the ammeter is going to be too much to hook up then I won't install but am willing to try.
Is there any way you can revise the wiring diagram and let me know what is needed?
If the cross over rely is not needed then let me know.
Fuse box would be better yes.
